Othar Ashen

Wizard of the blooming tree.   Middle aged man with a slight squint, albeit surprised, look. brown eyes and a long grey beard flows down partially covering a long blue robe the robe itself has patches of different material sewed onto it here and there and appears to have stains in various places of different colorings and texture.   personality
Messy Short with his words. Often goes into tangents that only he knows about it. Solely focused on his research and does not care about being diplomatic or hospitable. Always walks the righteous path. His research desires will never cause him to go down the wrong path. Lawfull Good.   First encounter
Othar – “Well, what do you want, we can’t both stand here mouths agape”
Once the players explain who they are Othar’s eye’s go wide and dart around looking out to the street.
Othar – “well come in then, come in, come in”
Othar ushes all the characters in. Upon closing the door.
Othar – “I am sure your travel’s where eventful but please forgive me for not having the desire to hear renditions of your travels.”
He scoots through a mess of a room, paper and books everywhere with toppled contraptions here and there.
Othar – “As introductions go, I am Othar Ashan, Wizard of the blooming tree.”
He gets to what appears to be a desk. And starts throwing things off it, whilst clearly looking for something. He finally finds it in the form of a book. Flipping through he holds up a page and on it is the symbol that is on all of your shoulders. He shoves it towards the players.
Othar – “Is this what you have on you.”
If players say yes he quickly walks to the closest knocking things over as he goes.
Othar –“show me”
From this point on DM will have to improv interaction.   Points of Interest
  • Does not want to tell them too much.
  • Upon inspecting the mark’s, he notes that within the lines there are ancient primal runes. He has an idea of what they might do but it doesn’t make sense so he thinks he is wrong.
  • DC-15 persuasion will get him to tell players that the runes appear to seal their souls to their bodies which seems meaningless to him, as it’s normally for tying souls to inanimate objects, which is why he suspects there is more to it.
  • He needs their help retrieving a book and amulet. The book can only be perceived by those that have the mark, but he has a way to force it to reveal itself to him using a spell and the amulet. but he needs to have the book in front of him and the amulet to do that.
  • If the players discuss the gnome they saw the wizard will not have any answers but will tell you to ask around the town to see if you can find any info.
  • He will say that none of that is of any import because for him to force the book to reveal itself he needs an amulet, an amulet which he believes a friend of his will be able to retrieve some time soon from an archeologist dig up north. Friends name is Professor Gadfrii Alderneach.
  • He doesn’t trust the players strength yet and to make sure they are up for the task he want’s them to go prove themselves. He says Tyndaal Harpswalker  has discovered something interesting underneath his tavern cellar. Unfortunately, dangerously oversized rats keep coming from there. If the players can go solve that issue for Tyndaal Harpswalker then he will trust in their abilities and give them the location of the Kobold base where they can find the amulet he needs.
  • He also suggests going to the herbalist at the marketplace Illmindel Galarina who they can get health potions and whatnot from.
