Marvesto

Marvesto is often called the "Gateway to Lavenna", and for good reason. Marvesto is the city of a thousand nations, once the citadel of vast empires, and now the cosmopolitan capital of the Republic of Verreya. Bracing against the rough, brutal black waves of the Pannova Ocean, it stands as a beacon of light against the stormy waves. A sprawling consortium of hills coated in a vibrant array of coloured buildings, constructed in innumerable styles and ornamentation, a cacophony of the voices of millions of those who fled persecution, war, or who sought a better life.   It was one of the several proposed capitals for Lavenna, but was ultimately not chosen due to its proximity to the front lines during the height of The Continental War, overcrowded conditions, and political instability. During Reconstruction, Marvesto quickly became a major epicenter for restoration efforts, harnessing its multicultural population to rapidly develop solutions for repairing Lavenna's poisoned ecosystems. The city is often called Lavenna's "open-air laboratory" for experimenting with various ways at environmental sustainability.

Demographics

Marvesto is a diverse confluence of countless ethnicities, ideologies and peoples. Its primary ethnic group is the Matroshki, who both founded the city and used it as their seat of government for centuries, until it was captured by the Novosti.

Infrastructure

Marvesto serves as a major regional transport hub, and has four major train terminals, three of which serve the The Lavennic High Speed Rail Network. As with every other major city in Lavenna, the city has an excellent network of local communal transportation as well, with tramway lines serving every district and fanning out into the countryside. The city also boasts one of the largest regional train networks, which is continually expanding.   The city is dotted with the glittering towers known as "Marveshi Vok," or "Little Communities" built during reconstruction as a part of the national government's committment to ensuring every citizen has access to quality universal communal housing.

Architecture

Marvesto is a fresco of countless architectural styles, from the regal, ornamented and blue accented facades of the old city, to the glittering towers of the nascent age of rebirth. Matroshki minarets and vaulted gothic style relics, contrast against the multitude of sleek, reflective towers of a new age. From a distance, the assortment of grandiose towering structures makes the city resemble a cluster of geodes sticking abruptly from the coastal plains.

Geography

The city core is centred around a cluster of low hills known as the pydnadsadt sestro, or "fifteen sisters." This cluster of hills is surrounded by a scattered assortment of freshwater lakes fed by the meandering estuary of the Kistral River that now runs through the heart of Marvesto. This city core is located around 2 km from the coast, and for most of its history the city was split into its historical core and the port of Levminsk. The city has since expanded all the way to the coast and a "backbone" network of roadways, canals, and rail lines run along the length. The city was once almost an island amidst marshy estuary lands, which made the soil exceptionally fertile, at least compared to the rest of the planet, but also made transportation difficult. Over the years, the marshlands were progressively drained and used as irrigation for vast farmlands, and now almost none of it remains. Only scattered lakes are all that is left of the once extensive marshes, though reconstruction efforts at restoration have been successful at reintroducing a large amount of biodiversity.

Climate

Nestled between the Merkosta mountains at the point where the immense plains of Vastonya meet the vast inland sea of (PH), Marvesto has a largely temperate climate, though is considered very windy and can get quite cold in the winter.
