Deities
Iolcus draws the interest and intervention of many deities, including some ascended from its ranks of mortal races through supernatural forces such as the Rites of Ascension. These deities are often grouped by their followers' region or race, though their power is rarely limited to such demographics. Others still have faded from relevance but still exist, and a handful have died—most prominently, the theorized death of the former goddess of death. Worshipers are necessary for the continued existence and powers of most deities. The numbers and fervor of a god's worshipers determine in large part the power of the deity. Deities without worshipers or who are fading in popularity, fade in power, and in extreme cases can even die from neglect.
Betrayer Deities
The Betrayer Deities are the Creator Deities who chose not to fight against the Primordials during the Age of Creation, and sought revenge against the Prime Deities during the War of Repellence. Vecna is also typically grouped with the Betrayer Deities, despite not being a Creator.Lesser Idols
The Lesser Idols are entities of the planes with powers akin to the gods, but either not strong or bold enough to challenge them. They come from all corners and compasses of the spheres, some paying homage to the gods in service, and others seeking to bring their creations to ruin.Prime Deities
The Prime Deities are the Creator Deities who chose to fight back against the Primordials during the Age of Creation, and defended the mortals from the Betrayer Deities during the War of Repellence. Illid is also typically grouped with the Prime Deities, despite not being a Creator.Table of Contents
