Session 11: Cameels, Demon Dolls, and Sand Hydras
General Summary
The session began on the morning of Solis 19, 2597. The party had breakfast together of either brazed fish or gruel at the Fleshy Squid Inn & Tavern. After completing their meal, they found a local who had camels and an oxen. Rodan Spice purchased Zurick (Cameel) the camel for 45gp. Tork rented an oxen named "Bull" and cart for a week (with food) for 20gp. Once the party set out, the first day they spent most of the trip studying and learning languages (Celestial and Druidic as on their last trip as detailed in Session 9: Tordan).
In the afternoon they came across a building with a thatched roof. Rodan Spice knocked on the door twice while mounted on Cameel. When no one answered, Tork went inside and found the essentially mundified bodies of two regally dressed figures. Alena Birch investigated and determined the more regal looking figure with a book in their lap had been poisoned while the other died by using their own scepter to kill themselves. Investigating the magical energies in the room, it was determined the book had an evocation aura. Rodan Spice read it without touching it and it appeared to be a story, but the party decided to leave the entire scene behind.
Upon exiting the structure, the Haunted Doll Tork had received a discount for taking at Sue's Trading Shop appeared again on Rodan Spice's camel Cameel. Rodan Spice responded by lighting it on fire, beating it with a crowbar, and finally burring it near the abandoned building. While this was happening, Tork went to the bathroom behind the building.
When they stopped for the day, Kale created a tidal wave against a nearby sand dune that gave the animals and the party plentiful water. Alena Birch communed with Artemis before they took shifts of watch for the night.
On the morning of Solis 20, 2597, the party started off for the day towards Jil’nan once again. Mid-morning, the clouds formed words overhead: "Rodan Spice, Why Have Your Forsaken Me?" Rodan Spice interpreted this be from the Haunted Doll and is verbally upset about the happenings as he did not have much of a role in the doll's time with the party. The party continues onward and midday came across a dead miner in the desert with a pick-axe, backpack, water-skin, pan, rolled up parchment with an "X" on it. The party determines this must be a treasure map and Kale notices a vertical mineshaft nearby.
Before descending into the mine, Alena Birch speaks with animals and talks with Cameel. She finds out that Cameel's name is Derek, thinks Rodan Spice is Cameel's pet, and doesn't understand why the one pulling the cart is pulling another one like the one pulling the cart (it thinks it might be its baby). After this, Alena Birch confirms that it will wait for them and confirms this with the oxen as well (who has a very deep voice).
All party goes into mineshaft (though Kale) falls part of the way and damages his elbow. Following the map they find a small chest hidden under rocks with 33pp, and a small burlap sack of rough cut gems (rubies, sapphires, diamonds) - Rodan Spice had a good vibe about this chest. They then climb the rope back out of the mineshaft where Kale struggles to climb up and eventually opts to instead transform into a spider frog to climb out. The party then continues towards Jil’nan before making camp for the night. This night when Rodan Spice takes his shift watching, he falls asleep.
The morning of Solis 21, 2597 rolls around and on their morning trek Tork asks Rodan Spice why he doesn't get into the thick of fights. Rodan Spice says it is the best way to survive, explaining, being a rouge. Tork hides badly and they play "peek-a-boo" where Rodan pretends not to see him but Kale stares at him hiding behind Cameel. Around 4PM in the afternoon the party arrives Jil’nan's ruins, large spikes of black and gray slate like material jutting 10s and even some 100s of feet out of the sand. Most of the buildings are buried under stone or have collapsed on the ground. The party begins by searching the North quadrant of Jil’nan where they are attacked by a five headed, muscled Sand Hydra! A fierce battle ensues where Kale is able to use healing magic and some offensive capabilities, Tork fights in the front dealing and taking massive amounts of damage, Alena Birch shoots arrows and spells from a distance, and Rodan Spice hides and makes certain Alena Birch's killing blow is successful by putting another arrow into the creature. From the corpse, Alena Birch harvested 8 large and 25 small Sand Hydra teeth. Additionally Alena Birch adds the Sand Hydra to her log of Creatures and helps Tork harvest meat from the Sand Hydra for supper (very lean neck meat). They go to sleep for the evening (Tork thinking about how he can make a Sand Hydra Tooth Dagger and the things he has to brag to @Zirk about with killing a Sand Hydra). Alena Birch closes out the evening by praying to Artemis.
When Solis 22, 2597 comes, the party awakens and searches diligently the Eastern quadrant of Jil’nan. Through spotting cairn birds they find an elven skeleton on the ground with blunt force trauma to the chest, a magical dagger (Alena Birch takes it), brown robes, and a backpack containing water-skin, change of clothes, 33gp, tinderbox, rope, rusty iron daggers, and a leather-bound journal. They conclude their search of the rest of the Eastern quadrant by mid-day and will begin their next session mid-day on Solis 22, 2597.Cartwheels
