Session 13: Tork has Rod
General Summary
The session begins on Solis 24, 2597. Sitting around a campfire with The Banished and Bran, the elderly gentlemen they spoke with the previous session, some people's choices on rat tenderness was vaunted more than others (The Banished are Medium Rare People). After learning members of the Banished had tried to get the rod in the tower/desert room before via brute force, the party went back to try for themselves. The box was of a clear material, a 2 foot cube and sat on a wooden 2 foot tall pedestal. They tried smashing it with weapons, smashing the box under it, damaging it with sacred flame, lifting and moving it, dumping water on it, bribing it (with gold and platinum), ringing a bell for it, lighting it on fire with a torch, and opening it after a tea party courtsey of the Teapot of Peace Tork has. Given all of these attempts, Rodan Spice took out their previously acquired silver rod and struck the box with it producing a harmonic noise. After two more strikes the box fractured and turned to dust, where the party was able to claim the rod (bringing their total to two).
After going back to gloat to The Banished about their success, they decided to try their luck in the Djinn Den (Gin Den) - they were aware that half the time, the Djinn would grant the opposite of someone's wish. A dark stone circular room saw a brass vase sitting on a dark stone pedestal in the center. Rodan Spice activated it by touching it after Kale informed them the writing on the vase said "Wish You May, Wish You Might". A heavily incensed smoke came out in an upward and outward spiral eventually revealing the djinn. He granted Rodan Spice's wish for an unlimited supply of rats in the rat pit (the one used as a food source by The Banished). Tork wished for rats to taste like blueberry pie. The Djinn complied and something happened (it is very likely all blueberry pie in the world now tastes like rats). Alena Birch and Kale did not use their wish from the Djinn at this point in time.
Going back to The Banished, the party confirmed rats still tasted like rats and that the Rat Pit had become the Rat Fountain. After a few lack luster goodbyes to The Banished (who were preparing for a very important mayoral election), the party continued on their rod quest, through the door on the opposite end of the Djinn Den (Gin Den). This led them to a hallway in which they took a right and met a talking camel selling rice and dates. The party declined to purchase any and continued past him to the door on the opposite side of this room. At their next T, the party came to a room with a large metal automaton filled with sand. Alena Birch noticed writing on the back, "RCAN" and "3589". The party tried to activate it like the door they originally entered through that also featured the letters "RCAN" by giving it a magical item, but it does not appear to work. Even after discovering a brushed brass plate in the ceiling and poking both it and the metal creature with their rods, they were stumped. The decided to continue past this room. Not even speaking in broken celestial to it worked!
At their next T intersection, the party took a left. They entered a pitch black cave where several hundred feet inside they discovered a goblin child playing with a silvered rod. The child claimed to have found it. Rodan Spice convinced him the mace Tork was offering was cooler, and eventually a trade deal was reached. In exchange for directions out of the cave and the silver rod, the party would provide the Goblin child (named Goblito) the old mace and sand hydra teeth. The deal was successful and the party exited (bringing their total to three).
At the next intersection the party hung a left and found a half-constructed room with half a dozen kobold worker skeletons wearing hardhats and overalls. Kale took one of the hardhats and fashioned a strap for it so he could wear it! There was a spike trap in the center of the room and a silvered rod hanging twenty feet over it. The party covered the hole with the spikes using a bedroll before trying to get to the rod. Tork attempted a javelin throw but ultimately they had Alena Birch use sacred flame to burn the rope and drop the rod (bringing their total to four). With this complete Tork claimed four additional hardhats for knee pads and elbow pads. Alena Birch did a quick check before leaving and there was nothing magical in the room.
At the next intersection the party hung a left and came to a jungle with a large river full of crocodiles (or alligators) and a red/tattooed person in robes across the way offering two rods for a high price. He communicated only with Rodan Spice telepathically but eventually the party agreed to draw straws for the high price. Kale lost the drawing of straws and had to pay the high mental price. Eventually the party made their way to a crossing two miles down the river where Tork pole vaulted over, Alena Birch sprinted over, Rodan Spice carefully walked over, and Kale turned into a crocodile wearing a hardhat to cross.
Upon arriving at the other side, the figure touched Kale's forehead and changed his alignment to Lawful Neutral in exchange for two rods (bringing their total to six). On his way back into the jungle beyond, he revealed a door hidden behind vines and moss through which the party exited the jungle area.
In the next hallway, the party found a fountain of talking statues (a man and woman, human) who both claimed the other is always lying. After some questions, the party decided the statues were a frivolous waste of time and decided to investigate the doors themselves. In the first door they found a room that had a spike trap being used as a toilet. They decided to try for the other room at the opposite end of the hallway where they discovered a long stone room with ten levers. Five were to the right of the opposite door and five were to the left. Tork first attempted to lasso them, but upon failing decided to just flip them one at a time. Nothing happened when flipping them one at a time, but when two at a time were flipped, an arrow flew out and struck Tork. He did this two more times before realizing the torches on the walls in the room would dim when he selected a lever. At this point Rodan Spice went through the levers again and eventually found the sequence to be the third lever on the left and fourth lever on the right. At this, the door was able to be opened. They entered another hallway where the decided to make camp and have a long rest.
