Session 29: We Have A Gay Too

General Summary

After midnight in the very beginning hours of BriskWind 14, 2597 the party had a short conversation about what to do next, how to take on Athelas, and decided to make their way to the home of Kale's mother, Dewlily. Kale's childhood home is within a collection of buildings built into and surrounding the trees. Some are up in the trees, but some are on the ground, a quaint looking village. When there, she welcomed them inside and introduced them to her partner, Sierra who was formerly Kale's fiancé when she was an elm tree. They then discussed the necessity of Athelas's leaving the coven for the health of Nwyfre and Dewlily was fully onboard. Atticus suggested they attempt to trick Athelas into teleporting with Atticus "to the HeartGrove" while Atticus actually stranded him somewhere he could not return. When developing a backup plan, Dewlily revealed that Athelas's greatest fear was of being powerless. With this, they determined they would need to be "thrown out" by the HeartGrove to decieve Athelas and Dewlily agreed to facilitate this the next day. This conversation took place over some lovely cinnamon tea.

Around this time, Kale asked Dewlily why she never told him about his true parents. She revealed that she had been afraid to loose Kale as he was already estranged from the coven. However, he left anyways. She realized she had made mistakes and tears flowed down her face while she looked down. She apologized and told Kale she loved him but understood that he likely needed space as well. With that, everyone turned in the for the evening.

The next morning, Dewlily told Kale what she knew about his parents. How two Firbolgs dropped him off at the coven and said they would see him soon. She noted how it was odd they didn't seem sad or dismayed about it, just like it was a normal day before they wandered off into the woods. Kale was grateful for the information and they joined the rest of the party for a breakfast of various meats and protein created by Sierra. Kale then gave Atticus a letter to Kale's father to be given to him right before he.... With this Kale cast a false death spell on himself and the party went to the magical barrier where Dewlily, Sierra, and a HeartGrove druid guard helped facilitate the deception of them being violently cast out of the HeartGrove.

Once on the outside, the party feigned Kale's death and used the outer ring of Nwyfre's guards to summon Athelas. When Athelas appeared, he was still cold and stern as he asked if Kale had successfully killed off Barkly while standing over Kale. He checked Kale for life and remained cold as he detected no life. Atticus offered to teleport Athelas and six others into the HeartGrove to take care of Barkly. With this Athelas summons six guards to go with him (leaving one behind to stay in command) and taking the copper hammer and nails. Atticus nodded and smiled at Kale and then teleported away with Athelas and the six guards.

Shortly after this, the magical barrier lowered and the druids of the HeartGrove attacked. The party held the remaining guard in place and shot him with a grievous arrow as the HeartGrove retook the Nwyfre coven as a whole. After this, Dewlily came up to them and they realized that the battle was won. She told them a feast would be happening that evening and asked if Atticus had returned. The party said he had not after 10 minutes and Kale noticed a book in his pocket as well as a folded note. He read the note out loud to the party:

Hey Kale and Gang, If You Are Reading This, I Don't Know If I Can make It Back. Why The Hell Would I Do that? First, my name is Charles Atticus Fitzgerald the III. Secondly, it is because I didn't know my father, I didn't know my father's love, I couldn't imagine having to kill my own father. I couldn't ask anyone to do that. So.. All my friends are dead beyond you guys. I didn't want to submit you all through pain or patricide, or any of that....
And well.... I Love you guys.

Atticus

Following this somber note, the party was upset at Atticus for leaving while some of them were sure he would still be back. They split up to do various things before the evenings feast and celebration which Dewlily was throwing. Tork first tried contacting Del via the etch-n'-sketch of interdimensional communication but did not receive a reply to his message about Atticus being gone. Tork, Alena Birch, and Wren got ready for the party by cleaning themselves up, weaving some flowers together for a crown for Tork, and generally having some prep time. Rodan Spice searched Athelas's living space and found 400gp scattered about as well as a small lockbox with a signet ring, a bag of gems, and 250pp rolled nicely and placed within a wooden box. Kale went and have a conversation with his uncle Barkly where he learned that his parent's names are names are Galendor Star and Mal'ock Star. They had evidently resided and given birth to Kale in the ruins of Silan where they made their home below the druidic pillars. When he came of age, he was to seek them there. They promised that when he came of age, he would be able to find them, before then it would be dangerous for him to try. Beyond this, Uncle Barkly gave Kale a bundle of his acorns to replant the grove and to spread across the world on Kale's travels so that the trees would once again learn to look up at the stars.

The evening party was set within the HeartGrove where tables with bountiful food and drink were around as well as laughter and joy. Strings of non-flammable light sources stretched between trees and Dewlily began the festivities with a speech about the generational work that would need to be done to heal what Athelas had caused, but that they needed to be open to new ideas in doing so, listening to more voices, and working together. With that, the party began in earnest. Rodan Spice had some rather good wine, presented Dewlily with Athelas' signet ring, and won 100sp at over-under which he threw in the air for others to enjoy. Kale talked up a tree with Tork as his wingman but unfortunately the tree was more interested in Tork than Kale. Both Kale and Tork were drunk for the excursion. Alena Birch got a good chuckle watching them from a table set to the back. Wren went and had a conversation with some of the forest animals that had come and Cameel. Cameel talked about agency, a tortoise talked about murder, and owl talked about how trees were at least 8 years old, how tortoise meat keeps away predators for a time, and goodberries were had by all. With the evening nearing its end, Kale read the stars and was drawn to the Hourglass constellation with a feeling that doom was approaching, and while still far off for now, still was approaching. When he arrived back at Dewlily's to sleep for the night, Tork asked him about contacting Del and they determined on Del's plane it had probably been nearly 3 years since Tork had messaged him the previous morning. Troubled, but unable to do anything about it, they went to bed.

The next morning the party decided to figure out how to reach Silan. They decided via boat was the best course of action and began heading back to the West to pick up the Absolute Majesty II. About a full day into the woods nearing dusk, they came upon the campsite of an older man playing a harp attached to a great sword. Oberon introduced himself and said he was a follower of the stars as his armor indicated. He didn't know what the stars were trying to tell him but knew they had a message for him. He seemed good as a whole and was very interested when the party said they were going to the ruins of Silan as well. He asked to join them, and after some initial hesitation, was allowed to join the party. Rodan Spice continued to eye him for the navigator position on the Absolute Majesty II following the vacuum left after Kale was promoted to first mate following Atticus's departure. The party reached the Absolute Majesty II around sunset on the evening of BriskWind 16, 2597. The session ended with the party being given a level up to Level 9.
