Dark One (a.k.a. Death's Mistress)
The first and only woman Dark One, Lexius held the power for the least amount of time, but do not think it was a waste. Lexius was born in 1027 and for all her life she seemed a normal lass, if only things were as they seem. Lexius enjoyed long torture, she started with bunnies and small animals and graduated to armies. She did no discriminate in torture, dwarf, human, women, children…she flayed, prodded and tortured them all. After conning her way to Dark One she wasted no time, her goal? World conquest. But taking over with her power alone did not interest her, so she did the impossible, the rose an army of the dead(It is true that resurrection is impossible, what Lexius did was simply reanimation, even still such a thing was thought to be impossible.) It was this unspeakable act that drove mages to make a new classification of magic, Black Magic, worse than dark magic.
Despite her vile nature she did find “love”. Her eyes were set on Sir Jack the Giant Slayer, a Knight of 13. Through foul sorcery Jack fell in love with her, joining her and serving her faithfully. He betrayed everyone of his oaths by the end, but this is a story humans do not tell.
Once her army was large enough she sent it to Xares, the human capital. Xares was said to and thought to be impregnable, unclaimable, but even the city of three walls could not stop the dead. The festering corpses threw themselves into the walls again, again and again, slowly chipping away the stone. The city’s soldiers went onto the field to combat them but you can not kill what is already dead, and for every soldier that fell Lexius’s army grew. It was a long and grueling siege, but the humans had nothing to stop it. Lexius herself could have brought down the walls, instead she sat on horseback, watching, waiting, listening to the people scream and watching the city squirm.
When the final wall broke Lexius appeared in front of King Farsfirus in a cloud of smoke and ripped his heart from his chest. Yet before she could sit herself upon the throne she herself died. A hero had arisen to claim the ring and stop her, he was none other than Spitta’s son, Harkon. Lexius died in 1055 at the age of 23. Her reign lasted for only five years, but they would have a lasting effect on The Vale.
