The Waystation

Purpose / Function

The Waystation is primarily a tavern and restaurant for the middle-working-class people of Hollow Oak. It also serves as a resting spot for travelers and merchants who can't afford to rent a house or stay with colleagues so it offers a few rooms.

Alterations

The Waystation was originally a herbalist shop run by Wayland's aunt Rhody. After she gifted him the building he used his wealth from giant hunting to make it into a long-term tavern/inn business.

Architecture

The Waystations foundation is made from stone bricks making it quite sturdy. Its design is a bit odd and seemingly unkempt on the outside. The design could be described as a mix of ruralistic tribal and early 4th Era medieval. The stone walls are proud and sturdy, but the wooden roof and support beams are rustic and homely. The class of style benefits the Tavern though, as it allows it to better stand out. Inside the Waystation is filled with comfortable hollow oak furniture and very warm dark wood furniture.

History

When Wayland had a super close call with death while hunting a group of hill giants he decided that it was time to settle down and start are less dangerous job. His aunt Rhody was kind enough to gift him her herbalist shop, and he used the money from his previous jobs to turn it into a tavern business. Over the years the tavern has become a staple of Hollow Oak life, generating lots of revenue for Wayland. During the Hobgoblin invasion of Hollow Oak, the tavern served as a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers and citizens. When the wave of immigrants looking for work came to Hollow Oak the waystation offered them free housing and food for a few days while they situated themselves in the town, leading to many of these woodworkers having a special bond with the tavern. Recently the Wardens of The Black Path have made the tavern a second home, causing many people to use the old news board to post job requests and other notices.
