Gates

The building was at least 100 feet tall. A massive stone gate, with it's elaborate doors sealed shut. Runes in an unknown language decorated the arch of the door. Who knows what may lurk inside?

The Gates, huge, hulking stone building that have been on the worlds before all people, allow travel between the thousands of worlds in the Multiverse. They opened mysteriously in 4082, an event now known as the Opening of the Doors. The structures are permanent and cannot be removed due to its reinforcement with Gatesilver. Through the harshest and most extreme condition, the Gates stand strong. They are now found every twenty miles or so.

The Gates are sometimes closed by the Elder Gods for specific worlds in extremely dangerous circumstances - like a severe Demonic incursion, which is often followed by the Gone - the Void beginning to consume a world, starting with all living entities on that planet - even gods.

Purpose / Function

Nobody knows why the doors where created by the Elder Gods, due to them being fairly distant from the Worlds and not contacting the races regularly. However, the buildings have been studied over many thousands of years and now there is knowledge of how they can be replicated and built, using a material known as Gatesilver.
