The Plane of Eternal Flame
Geography
The Plane of Eternal Flame is one of The Elemental Planes. It's landscape is scorched and hellish and lies on a massive ring, surrounding that which it guards and that which fuels the place's hateful heat, The Below. The ring of the plane is of such a massive scale that, similar to The Plane of Rising Wind, it extends beyond Internus, though it is still subject to Internus' influence.
Molten oceans leak off super heated material into Externus and, occasionally, Internus. The super heated, rocky landmasses are inhospitable to most creatures. Lands are connected by long bridges and are subject to constant fighting between Devils, Demons, Elementals, Mortals, and any other creature unfortunate enough to find themselves on the Plane of Eternal Flame's hellscape.
History
As is the case with the other Elemental Planes, there is much debate as to the origin of the Plane of Eternal Flame. Little is know of the plane before The Existential Permutation as little is known of anything before the beginning of time, but it is said that Ito regretted this creation. Ito was so disgusted with some of the creatures that existed on the plane, that they simply pulled the part that bore the creatures on it off and hurled that section of the plane out of the Cosmos. Ito then repaired the ring plane, but eventually the removed section would find its way back to Internus, once Ito was no longer around to prevent it.
The purpose of the Plane of Eternal Flame was altered following the battle at the beginning of time. After the victory of the Interventionist Gods during The Ascendant War, Ito was damned to forever remain in a world that was once one of their failed projects, The Below. The Below is suspended at the very edge of Internus and sealed in place by the Plane of Eternal Flame. Compared to today, the Plane of Eternal Flame was cold before Ito was transformed into Gaulgulis and sealed away. Now the incalculable heat of Gaulgulis's rage is drawn away so that he might forever remain frozen in The Below and the heat of his anger is drawn into the Plane of Eternal Flame.
The Plane of Eternal Flame also serves as a gateway that all damned souls must pass through on their way to The Below. A gateway that only functions in one direction.
