Shanwaser Character in Jethiea | World Anvil

Shanwaser

In more primitive human culture, Shanwaser is represented by the Moon and Queen Salmon that swims up river to deliver her children in the safety of calm waters. And, then through her powers of the tides she pulls her children from the streams to the bounty of the seas to grow strong under her watchful eye of the moon.   In more current religious studies, she is known as Silver Scaled Lady, Maiden of the Sky, and the Night White Lady, the goddess of the moon in the Helleflam pantheon. She holds the portfolios of the moon, moonlight, and stars; beauty and purity; love and marriage; navigation and navigators; tracking, wanderers, and seekers; diviners and dreams; good and neutral lycanthropes; and according to the ancient Tuathians, she was the winter. According to human Tuthians, her moon shining brighter at night than the Aldor's sun in the the day during the winter days means her power holds the strength in winter.   She is the moon's mysterious power, the heavenly force that governed the world's tides and a mother's reproductive cycles, caused lycanthropes to shift form, and drew one to the brink of madness howling at the Moon, and back again. Her nature, appearance, and mood all change in turn with the phases of the moon.
