The 12 Years War

Prelude

In the Summer of 1375, the chancellor of the Vanalia-Hadrin union, Gerund Freidun, had begun instigating the kingdom of Etraks with insulting letters with the intent of drawing Etraks into a conflict as the aggressor. The efforts paid off, and the Etraki king, Janos VII Oiken began preparations for an attack in the autumn.
The previous decades had seen the union of the crowns of Vanalia and Hadrin after the latter's king's death in battle and subsequent anarchy. Foreign armies had been expelled from Hadrin and their realms in turn were invaded. In addition, after having trounced Etraks, the union advanced Vanali interests in Gerreggy. It was apparent that the union's power was greatly increasing.
Promulgated by Etraks, those opposed to the union started to coalesce. Despite the threat to sovereignty that the union posed to nearby states, many of them aligned themselves to the union. Thus, the coming conflict would come to devastate much of Eastern Kolaskyva for over a decade.

The Combatants

Although the combatants would come to include most of the Arasian and Gerreggian states, the ones that began the conflict were the Vandalia-Hadrin union, the Duchy of Estyr, the Duchy of Slepn, the Amethian Kingdom of Citra, the Kingdom of Etraks, the Kingdom of Austrich, the Grand Duchy of Romin, the Duchy of Arepat, and the Duchy of Nun.

The Conflict

Outcome

The union was forced to dissolve, diminishing both Vanali and Hado power. In addition, Vanali gains in Gerreggy and Hado gains Arasia were reversed.

Aftermath

Vanalia would never again gain quite a dominant position over the other Gerreggian states, leaving the spot open for the Garnbagers, and Hadrin's realm would become more and more oligarchic, as the competing magnates would build up their own power bases- leaving the peasantry upset and ready to revolt.

The 12 years war was a brutal conflict which would live on in the minds of the regions inhabitants for centuries and served as a strong deterrent against war for decades.
