Idris Vypal
Idris Vypal is the name created by an arch demon that visited (visits?) the material plane. He was summoned by Oth Pinebender many thousands of years ago in a pact to destroy the invading infernal hordes. He lived for many years in secret as King Pinebender's aide. He eventually warped and twisted his mind and caused the destruction of the city of Pendle. Then with his newfound power and freedom razed the invading infernal armies single-handedly. He has since dissaperaed into history, forgotten by even the most astute records and documents. He aided this disapearance by destoying and eradicating any historical documentation of himself.
He still lives on the material plane biding his time and searching for something. His true purpose and goals are unclear. Why go into hiding if he was powerful enough to slay an army? Why has he not returned to the Infernal Hells? Only he knows his true intentions.
Over the thousands of years, Idris Vypal has had many disguises. Often he is a beggar or traveler, looking for lost and forgotten information. He has impersonated nobles, politicians, and even priests. Many of his names and disguises offer clues to his real nature. For example Vypal mean demon in Infernal. He is generally cruel and malicious, but very good at acting, sometimes for hundreds of years in a single role.
At the time of the start of the campaign, he is hiding as the current King of Silvestris. He summons a demon in front of the party to steal its essence and power. Then he summons lesser demons to finish everyone trapped in the room. This act has two goals. 1. to gain a small amount of power and knowledge about the Infernal Realm (which he hasn't visited in thousands of years). and 2. To gauge if any adventurers present are strong enough for him to be thier patron and lead them on a twisted path to getting what he's truly after all these thousands of years.
