Oth Pinebender
Oth Pinebender was the ancient ruler of much of what is now known as Silvestris, in the city of Pendle. For much of his life he ruled benevolently and guided an era of prosperity and progress. However, much of that time marred by dangers and wars. Occasionally, Oth Pinebender would direct his troops into a battle against other nations, but predominantly he battle hordes and legions of demons, devils, and undead. This was a time when demons and devils were considered to be at their strongest in the world. Many years the country fought against these evil entities. In the end the city and countryside were destroyed and devastated by the infernal armies. However, Oth Pinebender sacrificed his life to exile the infernal beings from the known world. His sacrifice led to a path for all humanoidkind to grow and prosper in the world.
At least, that's the official story. The truth is a bit different. Fearing total devastation to his home and people Oth Pinebender actually bartered with a greater demon, one with an opposing army and grudge against the demons and devils destroying the world. This greater demon, whose name has been lost to history, destroyed the invading forces and wiped almost all the infernal beings from the world. The greater demon then razed the town in the place of the invading army. The pact with this greater demon was actually forged many years ago and it worked as an aide, slowly corrupting the Oth Pinebender's mind. Eventually, he agreed to let the demon raze the city as an act of mercy to his constituents. Truly twisted by infernal meddling, he beleived the only way to save his country was to destroy it so something greater could take its place. This destruction allowed the greater demon to escape its pact with Oth Pinebender. No longer needing his puppet, the greater demon killed the king and sowed darkness for a thousand years in secret. The greater demons current wherabouts are unknown and its true intentions may never be discovered.
The city eventually rebuilt and its name changed to Caligo.
