Tarlok
Tarlok has plied a trade in the Tiryki Anchorage Dinosaur Pens for a number of years, specialising in herbalist and alchemical treatments for the racing dinosaurs, working primarily from his own humble below-ground set-up Apothecary.
He originated in a small community along the Sword Coast, where his mother always told him he was special. When she grew deathly ill, young Tarlok did everything he could to save her, eventually turning to the investigation of darker arts.
His quest was met with an answer, as in a deep cave he heard a dark voice beckoning to him, telling him of a power to be held over death, and to seek out Chult. Reaching into those dark waters, the voice bestowed powers on him, although it triggered something from within Tarlok that was.. unexpected...
Tarlok gained sorcerous ability, tuning into pure tides of chaos magic, with some control and manipulation of the fabric of the weave of magic itself.
These powers lead him eventually to Port Nyanzaru, where his secret works would begin, his ailing mother forgotten, as the ambitionless wishes of a child, Tarlok would do far greater things.
Tarlok joined The Sexiles intending to use their adventures in the jungle to find rarer ingredients and magical abilities, but as was becoming common, his intentions became somewhat twisted when the group made it to M'Bala and found Nanny Pu'Pu. The Hag immediately sensed another Hag's influence over Tarlok's powers, and saw her own opportunity to thwart her old sister's efforts. Trapping the Sexiles in her shadow dimension, Nanny promised Tarlok power and knowledge in return for sacrificing his eye to her, which he did. Somewhat symbolically, part of the shadowrealm trials involved him strangling a manefestation of his own mother...
Days later, a new Wyrd Eye had grown beneath the bloodied bandages of his ruined orbit, through which Tarlok could see into the Ethereal Plane. The more he ised it, the more he would see the creeping hunched figure of Nanny stood in the distance, getting ever closer... and the more he would hear her skull scraping voice in his head, beckoning him towards more dark powers.
Still, Tarlok learned much from Nanny's own spellbook and diary, eventually he would discover the Rite of Stolen Life, the means through which life can be brought back to those departed, even perhaps with the influence of the Death Curse.
On the caustic shores of Lake Luo, The Sewn Sisters have found the Sexiles, seemingly their attention centred on Tarlok, sending them through wicked trials, and Tarlok once again hears the voice that lead him to power so long ago, Peggy Deadbells, and he feels in the back of his mind, Nanny is cowering in fear... Tarlok completes the trials by murdering an old and regretful version of himself. He had warned his young self of the pain he would cause, but Tarlok said he regrets nothing.
Nanny begs Tarlok to give in to the pwoer she can bestow, rather than be slaughtered by the Sewn Sisters, and Tarlok accepts.
Now Tarlok finds himself in nanny's place, trapped behind his own mind, whilst she walks in his flesh.
