Nihtjat (nI-jat)
Nihtjat are a family of medium-sized nocturnal avians, characterized by their distinctive head shape, long wings and short tails. Nihtjat have large black eyes and unlike many avians have no sexual dimorphism, with both males and females being the same colour, though one notable exception is the Grena-cræsta Nihtjat, whose males have evolved a small green feathery crest on their heads. Beyond this example all Nihtjat have camouflage plumage which makes them extremely difficult to spot when they are foraging for insects on the forest floors of Albatanica. Nihtjat all have two normal anisodactyl feet, broad flat rounded feather tails, and long pointed wings. All Nihtjat's are insectivores.
