United Kingdom of Inglaand

The Kingdom of Inglaand bears some similarity to Medieval England from Earth. Ruled for many years by the man-child King George V, Inglaand is a fiefdom of wealthy Nobles who make up the King's Court. They in turn rule their prospective cities, villages, and towns.   This court is chauvinistic and petty under the pretense of Chivalry. It is the youngest of all the major factions, and that may be why it is the most ambitious. The Nobles and their Knights have been quick to throw a punch on the world scene, and King George has provoked war in the past. At the time of the Party's arrival into the world, Inglaand was 6 months into a war with their neighbors, Span'ce.   Inglaand controls a vast amount of land from Khufu in the south to Vahalamjor in the north and the Lonely Sea to the west to Span'ce in the east. However, the cities are few. Before the Great Desolation, Inglaand was also the biggest and most prosperous of countries, but after losing half of their cities and villages when the War ended, the Kingdom was placed firmly in last place and has been trying to claw up ever since.

Structure

In Inglaand, the King has ultimate power.   After that, the Nobles holds the most power and typically have homes in the regions they are in control of. They, along with Generals and Knights form the King's Court - a semi-democratic council that handles the high-level problems the King doesn't want to worry about.    This power is followed by the Mayors, Elders, and Lawmasters of their individual cities, villages, and regions.   All of this said power comes from the authority of the King, and therefore is usually looked upon as an extension of The Crown. Any rulings made by the local authorities are considered to be made by the King himself and (unless challenged by the local leader's superior) upheld by the King's Guard.     The Power Structure:
  1. King
  2. King's Court (collective nobility)
  3. Individual Nobility
  4. Lawmasters of the region
  5. Local Leaders (Mayors/Elders)
In the event that the King should die, he relies on the Regent and the Nobles of his Court to ensure his lineage is put in power should his heir not be of age. This means that although the King does have absolute power, he relies quite a lot on his Court and needs to work together with them. In theory, all nobles get one vote in matters of state, including the King, but in practice the King can still do whatever he wants.

Military

The Army is divided into three distinctive divisions as follows:
  1. The King's Guards, which are your run-of-the-mill local militia cobbled together by the Noble of the area, Knight of the Realm, or Mayor of the city.
  2. The Crown's Army for Homeland Protection (CAHP), also called "Cappers" because of their name, are the King's Guard's better-trained and better-funded counterparts. These men investigate murders, train the Kings Guard, and form the Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, and occasionally Generals based in their respective cities, although the Generals usually are moved back into the attacking army as soon as possible.
  3. The Honored Army of the Crown (HAOTC), sometimes called "Hacks" as a racial slur by rival military organizations, this group of men are formed directly under a Noble that takes them personally into his employ and is called upon in times of war to defend and conquer on a large scale. This is Inglaand's right hand and standing army.

Religion

Religion is a loose term in Kaldra. Although the idea of a higher power is not rejected in Inglaand, most individual people don't see it as devotion to a higher power. Because of this, Religion in Inglaand is divided into 3 camps:
  1. Belief in Lorkin
  2. Belief in Primordial Beings
  3. Belief in the Ancient Kaldrans
The easiest to tackle would be the Belief in Lorkin. Most people in Inglaand do not believe in them more than stories to tell their children before bed. Those that do are severely scrutinized and, in some places, punished. However, this is mostly due to the fact that in Inglaand, belief in Lorkin usually results in the worship of Lorkin...   The second camp is those who put their belief in the Ancient Primordial Beings of Kaldra. Many Scholars and Historians agree that, at one time, beings of incredible might and glory walked Kaldra. The science stops there, unfortunately, and mankind's vivid imagination takes over... According to the legend, these beings were gods who demanded the worship of those around them. This lore has trickled down and fallen into legend. In modern times, this means many MANY people worship these ancients as gods and assign them great powers and abilities the historical record doesn't support. In Inglaand, this is the prevailing belief.   Bringing up distant third, the belief that the Ancient Kaldrans were deities has always been a favorite among the cultures of Kaldra. Even the world herself is named after them, so it makes sense people would put their belief in said powers. Although the historical record of this once-great people is all but wiped out. In fact, the only thing known about the Ancient Kaldrans is that they once ruled all of Kaldra peacefully. The lore, however, turns them into angelic saviors. In Inglaand, belief in the "Ancient Kaldran Gods" is almost non-existent. Mostly because it is the main belief of Span'ce...
