Istuzia (iss-TOO-zee-uh)
Istuzia is an archipelago in the central Lorthrai Ocean, east of Surelia. It is a state of the Lanarian Empire, and Alatha is its capital city.
Istuzia has historically had a low population, due in part to its distance from other landmasses, and the presence of grekks in its waters year-round. Its location was known prior to the invention of sonar, but it wasn't mapped or settled until after sonar came into use. In the early years, Istuzia was a haven for pirates and other illegal activity. Once the imperial navy cracked down and imposed order on the archipelago, it became the last state in the northern hemisphere to join the Lanarian Empire.
While law and order reigns in the largest islands, the smaller isles still provide refuge for smugglers and others who wish to stay downwind of authorities.
Istuzia's reputation suffered as a result of the Alathan Flu epidemic starting there.
Attempts to encourage development and immigration suffered a major setback in the first year of Empress Vazali's reign, when a new settlement was destroyed by a volcano that was previously thought to be extinct.
