Technology of Kavrillia

With a few significant exceptions, the technology of Kavrillia is not quite as advanced as Earth's (not that the two planets exist in the same universe...)     air travel: Curiously, Kavrillians have not developed any kind of air travel. They have no airplanes, helicopters, rockets, or hot air balloons--and there is no record of anyone trying to invent such things, either. Eons ago, the first proto-Kavrillians were amphibious, and their descendants still focus on water as the foundation of their world. Considering the speed and efficiency of both water and rail transport on Kavrillia, it's somewhat understandable. Still, the lack of satellite data makes weather forecasting challenging.   cars: Kavrillia has cars, trucks, limousines, and other land vehicles, but rail travel is still the most popular option for traveling long distances over land, or within urban areas. That being said, the monarch travels in a motorcade for convenience and security reasons.   computers: Computers are used mainly for word processing, database access, and tracking resources (such as military assets). Networking is still rudimentary and they do not have an internet.   high speed rail: Lanarians invented high speed rail and rely on it as the primary means of land-based transportation. A robust network of rail lines connects all major cities on a given landmass. The empire's capital, Shalanera, has its own system of trains called CapRail for use within the city.   medical technology: Medicine in Kavrillia is advanced enough that surgeries are generally safe, significant injuries can usually be healed, and noninvasive scans can narrow down problems. Disease can still be deadly, of course, but some conditions (like Kretavin's Syndrome) that would have been a death sentence in centuries past are now treatable.   sonar: No ship on Kavrillia will leave port without a reliable sonar system to warn of the gargantuan sea monsters known as grekks. Lanarian scientists developed the first sonar technology in 3927, an invention that had far-reaching cultural, societal, and geopolitical impacts. For the first time, mariners could get advance warning of a grekk in the area, allowing them to traverse the equator and live to tell the tale.   speed boats: Cutting-edge technology makes it possible to take a personal watercraft from Shalanera to Jantrala in less than two days. This is slower than high-speed rail, but still a practical option for a family vacation. Rumor has it that the imperial military is developing even faster engines.   vidphone: A device with a screen approximately 8"x11" that allows for videoconferencing. If one does not wish to be seen, there is the option to turn off the camera.   wayvision: Essentially the Kavrillian version of analog television. The appliance was originally called “wave vision” due to the radio waves it uses, but was elided into one word over time.   wristcomm: A communications device similar to a radio or walkie-talkie, consisting of a microphone on a wrist strap and a wireless ear piece. Used by the Imperial Guard, among other organizations.
