Telik (TEL-ick)

Telik is a complex deity. He is the god of war, vengeance, discord, and chaos. While these are mostly negative aspects, He is also highly esteemed by soldiers in their ruthless pursuit of victory.   Telik's teachings seek to help those struggling with anger and resentment to handle those emotions in a healthy way. Unfortunately these details are in the Tomes that the average Vincaran won't read or understand, so Telik has a reputation as a dark, frightening figure.   Appropriately enough for the god of chaos and discord, He is the only member of the Vincaran pantheon without a palindromic name.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The primary motif of Telik's temples are mosaics of black and white tile, arranged in ways that are dizzying or cause optical illusions. Shrines to Telik are also sometimes decorated with weapons, both ancient and modern.   Worshipers of Telik may choose to cut themselves and shed a few drops of blood into a basin at His shrine, both as a show of devotion and to curry the god's favor so He will be more likely to answer their prayers.   Below is a small shrine to Telik in the home of Vincarans who are devoted to Him. Note the chaotic black and white motif in the tabletop and wall hanging, and the insence holder in the middle.

Photos of ancestors are optional but not uncommon in home shrines. Ones placed in a shrine to Telik were either great warriors, or the inspiration for a vendetta--or both.

Tenets of Faith

Before colonization decimated their population, it wasn't unusual for Vincarans to hold grudges for decades and carry on feuds for generations. Telik was considered the overseer of these disputes, and both sides of a conflict would pray to Him for victory.
