Kingdom of Thailand

Government

The Kingdom of Thailand is a constitutional monarchy, where the king serves as a figurehead, but the real political power resides with the elected government and the Prime Minister

History

Thailand has been the only nation in its region to avoid colonization by the European powers. Though its has had to cede territory and compromise to make this feasible. Modernization has become an imperative for self protection, so a series of political reforms to transform Thailand from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional one were made earlier in the 1930s. This resulted in a couple small civil wars between conservative monarchist factions and liberal factions, ultimately leading to the constitutional monarchy system currently in place.

Foreign Policy

Thailand has been modernizing and building up its military due to its unfavorable past interactions with its colonialist neighbors. This new military will at the very least serve as a deterrent to the expansion of the British Empire and Republic of France, but Thailand would also like to reclaim its lands lost too unfair and lopsided treaties with these rival powers.

Economy

Thailand is not very powerful economically or industrially, and is therefore reliant on imports of modern and industrial goods from the outside. Thailand however is an exporter of a lot of natural resources and food. Most people in Thailand live very modest, un-affluent, and traditional lives.

Culture

Thailand is the cultural crossroads of India and China, and therefore contains much influence from both sources. Visitors to Thailand will first notice its colorful clothing and temples, as well as the spiciness of its food.

Geography

Thailand has a tropical to semi-tropical climate. The country also receives a high level of rainfall during its monsoon season. It is warm to hot most of the time, and host lush vegetation as a result, and tigers, leopards, monkeys, and elephants still roan Thailand's jungles
