Shimmering Grotto

Deep beneath the ruins of Horgenhold lies a system of tunnels and caverns carved by both Dwarven hands and the forces of nature. The largest and most stunning of these caverns, known to the Dwarves as Thrumminghalls and to the Medusas as Shimmering Grotto, is a vast chamber filled with shimmering crystal formations.

The crystals within Thrumminghalls/Shimmering Grotto come in a variety of colors and shapes, from translucent and smooth to jagged and opaque. They are highly prized for their medicinal and magical properties, as well as their use in alchemy and as a trade good. The Dwarves once used them to create powerful healing draughts and tinctures, while the Medusas use them to craft potent poisons and weapons.
The crystals also emit a faint thrumming sound, giving the cavern its name. This sound is said to have a calming effect on those who spend time within the cavern, and the crystals themselves are sometimes used to create musical instruments.  Some of the greatest bards in the world, including the legendary Tyr Magnuson, used a dulcimer made of Shimmer Crystal.
Despite its beauty and utility, Thrumminghalls/Shimmering Grotto is not without danger. The cavern is home to all manner of beasts, from the small and harmless to the large and deadly. The Medusas who inhabit the area from nearby Argonaus are fiercely protective of their domain, and any intruders are likely to meet a swift and deadly end.
Despite the risks, Thrumminghalls/Shimmering Grotto remains a popular destination for adventurers and traders seeking to acquire the valuable crystals within. Many have tried to establish a foothold within the cavern, but few have succeeded in surviving the dangers within.
For those willing to take the risk, Thrumminghalls/Shimmering Grotto offers untold treasures and wonders, and its crystals continue to be highly sought after throughout the land.
