The Fists
The Lesser and Greater Fists, known collectively as 'The Fists' are a pair of twin volcanic mountains near the northern border of Zoluren, along the Northern Trade Route at the edge of the Danduwen Forest.
The Greater Fist has been known, historically, for it's somewhat frequent, typically catastrophic, eruptions, which have, over time, turned much of the surrounding area into either extremely fertile farmland, or mostly impassable blasted terrain. It's last eruption of any noticeable ejecta was a series of eruptions between 163 and 165 AV.
The Lesser Fist is not known, historically, for major eruptions. Though it frequently seeped magma into a series of ever-shifting lava flows on it's rocky surface, rarely in the world's collective memory had there been any major activity.
Without warning, in 162 AV, the Lesser Fist began a several-day-long, catastrophic eruption which flung debris for hundreds of miles, ejecting a plume of smoke which drifted on the winds for months, blotting out the sun in areas as far east as Aesry Surlaenis'a and as far south as Steelclaw Clan. This colossal event literally blew the top off of the mountain, forming a massive caldera and lava-filled lake which continues to roil and churn.
At the base of the Greater Fist, a small mining camp has existed, in one form or another, for nearly one hundred years. The encampment of Dirge has been destroyed, abandoned, rebuilt, and relocated dozens of times, as lava flows, debris, and other hazards have caused the miners to flee for their lives. Yet, they continue their work, delving deeper into the hopefully-empty lava tubes to retrieve rare earth metals and extremely precious gems. These miners have repeatedly made reports of sighting a red dragon on, in, or near the mountains, but these reports have never been verified by any other source, nor have their been reports of destruction, livestock loss, or any other indicator of a dragon's presence.
