The Great Lighthouse
Standing more than two hundred feet tall, the Great Lighthouse stands on the eastern edge of Knightstone Landing, it's brilliant beam piercing the darkness and guiding ships from the Reshal Sea through the estuaries and into the Segoltha River.
Purpose / Function
Piercing the darkness with one of the brightest lights known in Kermoria, the Great Lighthouse serves to assist ships in and out of the estuary of the Segoltha River, allowing vital water-borne trade to pass between the provinces. It's brilliant beam guides mariners in the darkness, as well as serves as a landmark for hundreds of miles for sailors who rely on celestial and landmark navigation, rather than the more complicated charting system of larger vessels.
Architecture
The lighthouse was built from white granite, quarried from the Gemfire Mountains by numerous mining guilds from Stoneclan. Due to it's absolutely massive size, it took just over four full years to complete the construction.
The lighthouse stands two hundred fifty three feet tall, and, at it's base, is just shy of one hundred twenty feet along each side. These measurements do not, of course, include the outbuildings, which include homes for the lightkeeper as well as small wall sections to provide a modicum of protection, should pirates or enemy vessels choose to assail the grounds.

Defenses
The lighthouse is protected by a series of walls and small towers, manned by a small contingent of members from the Zoluren Expeditionary Force. These soldiers and Marines are appointed here ceremoniously, usually as a reward for exemplary service over the course of their careers.
History
The Great Lighthouse had it's cornerstones laid in 100AV, and was completed in 104. At that time, Knightstone Landing did not exist as it does now; it was merely a small port of, mostly, fishermen. Since the lighthouse was built, the city grew in size and power, until it was officially incorporated as a territory of Zoluren in 154AV; the construction of the lighthouse giving the region the importance it needed to grow. Many believe that, without the lighthouse, there would be no Knightstone.
Tourism
As Knightstone Landing is the busiest port in the world, it is inevitable that just about everyone who's sailed the Segoltha River or the Reshal Sea has seen the Great Lighthouse. Thousands of ships pass it each year, and hundreds more pass within view of it, as it towers above the landscape and is visible, at night, for more than one hundred miles in ideal conditions.
Hundreds of people each year do travel to Knightstone Landing with the intent of simply viewing the Ligthhouse, as it stands as one the tallest building in Zoluren, and one of the tallest in all of Kermoria.

"I've done some terrible things in my life. And I'll likely do alot more. But I can tell you with a good degree of certainty that I will never, ever disrupt the Lighthouse. And if one of my men do, I'll hang them myself. It's the lifeblood of the world, and has kept sailors like me alive for more than a hundred years." -Jourok, 216AV
