Daún Mell'an Skogen
''Sometimes when I wake up, the song of Daún resonates inside my soul and I can make out the faint taste of bark bread in my mouth... It’s all part of a former life now''
Gudrun Inamenor
Daún Mell'an Skogen is a small elven village in a forest near the Grizzly Hills built around the spring of the river Dawn. Not much is known about this settlement. The elves live off the forest and keep to themselves, occasionally trading wares with nearby settlements. Travellers and mountaineers tend to end up in Daún coincidentally, when following the river upstream for example, but rarely stay long as there is nothing special to see or do there. They are welcome to rest their weary feet however, the Daúnar don't seem to be hostile, but neither overly hospitable. The village doesn't have a real inn, but there's always a cabin available for the occasional passerby. There's no up-to-date information available about the village, including who sits in its council now. Presumably the village elder is in command.
Team Treebark's member Gudrun Inamenor was born and raised here.
Demographics
The majority of the Daúnar are wood elves, but there are some high elves too
Government
A small council guides the village rather than rules over it
Defences
The huntsmen take shifts guarding the gate and at least one volunteer, usually a young man, will check the perimeter at night. Daún Mell'an Skogen does not know conflict or battle apart from the occiasional wild animal trying to steal some chickens or huntsman's game.
Industry & Trade
The village produces its own bread from treebark which it trades together with game from the huntsmen for vegetables, potatoes and other wares they don't have. Food and wares are divided among the inhabitants based on their family setting. There's always at least one fletcher active in the village providing the huntsmen with arrows. Excess arrows can be traded.
Infrastructure
There's not much else to be found here except for houses, although the baker's houses have small watermills
Assets
There are no stores in the village, all wares are shared among the community. If necessary you can buy some things there as a traveller, but usually only from people that occasionally visit other settlements to trade, like a huntsman or a baker.
Architecture
Everything in the village is made out of wood, but natural rock formations are used in some places. The village is surrounded by a wooden fence.
Geography
Being a part of the Grizzly Hills the ground mainly consists out of rock and not a lot of sunlight is able to pass through the massive trees. The settlement has access to fresh water through the spring of the river.
Natural Resources
The Daúnar don't touch the rock as they believe this will weaken the earth's structure. They will cut trees if necessary when they need to build something for the community or make arrows for the huntsmen. They will trade their bark bread and herb mixtures.
Daún is the original elven name for the river Dawn. Mell'an Skogen is regional elvish for 'between the forest'.
