The Senatus Solis

Structure

Though colloquially, and accurately, all members of the Imperium's judicial and secondary legislative body are referred to as senators, there are actually three distinct roles that one of its members can serve, and each member may only serve one at a time. Changing roles is possible, but uncommon and requires significant effort. The most common, which most people imagine when they think of senators, are the Curians who serve as judges of the highest court in civil matters, draft civil law, as well as vote on every measure that is brought to the senate floor. The next most common are the Quaestors, who serve as judges of the highest court in criminal matters, draft criminal law, and vote on matters of criminal law and citizen or civilian rights. The least common are the Censors, who serve as judges of the highest court in matters of treason, abuse of government power, etc. and vote on expansion or restriction of rights and constitutional amendments. Additionally, the censors vote to confirm or deny potential new senators nominated by the Familias Maior.   Each role also includes a leader of that subset appointed by the imperator. The Grand Curian breaks all tied votes and assigns committees within the Curians. The Grand Quaestor is the representative of the senate to the imperator and vice versa, and assigns committees within the Quaestors. The Grand Censor appoints committees within the Censors, and appoints members of the Curians to Quaestorship and Quaestors to Censorship. At any given time, there are ten times as many Quaestors as Censors and ten times as many Curians as Quaestors. There is a relation between the empire's population and number of provinces with the number of senators, but it is not a strict number per province or number of population, and is subject to the Familias Maior choosing how many candidates to nominate and the censors choosing how many to confirm.

Public Agenda

The Senatus Solis is the primary judicial body of the Imperium, though subject to the will of the Imperator, and its secondary legislative body as delegated by the Imperator.
