BSG | Arald III Bladesong
King Arald Bladesong, III (a.k.a. The Drunkard)
King Arald III has a reputation as a man who tried his best, for a while. He attempted to bring much-needed reforms to the Kingdom and improve its infrastructure, and he became so depressed after The Council defeated his proposed amendments that he turned to alcohol.
The last few years of his reign were marred by embarrassment and humiliation as the King increasingly meddled in the nobles' affairs, until someone's patience finally gave out. Unexpectedly it was his son, Calimaco Bladesong, who formally challenged his father to a duel for the throne, to be held in the Council Hall at once in front of The Council. After a brutal fight King Arald III was slain by a rapier through the heart. While he perished, the manner of his death afforded Arald III a measure of respect that he had not held in life.
