Alexander
Alexander
Grand Duke Alexander was a member of the Russian Imperial Romanov Family and the son of Tsar Nicholas I. Following a Polish rebellion in 1861, Alexander attempted to appeal to his father for lessening the oppressive policies of the Tsar. In the disagreement, Nicholas was killed by gunshot, after which a succession crisis emerged. Alexander was subsequently barred from the throne of Russia as rumors of patricide and regicide became rampant. Alexander's son, also named Alexander, was also removed from the line of succession.
Alexander was exiled to Kiev with his family, where he became the Grand Duke of the region.
