Veluthegyr

"My pretty birds are telling me that you are wavering in your loyalty. Accept my gift to thank you for your service, and renew your pledge to me or my pretty birds may just peck you to death."   ~Queen Rana

Qualifications

Children are chosen to be Veluthegyr when they display a particular analytical mind advanced of their years. They are typically chosen from the upper class and recommended to the Lindissët by their tutors.

Appointment

When the Lindissët identify a candidate, they approach the parent. If the parents agree to give up their child (which nearly always happens, as doing so is a great honor) they are given a poison that erases the child from their mind. The child is sent away to learn the arts of harem politics.   When they arrive at the palace, they undergo a special ceremony in front of the Quende Fendassë. Imbibing the Wine of Service under the watchful eye of the Airimossë, they undergo a transformation that renders them androgynous, grants them beauty, grace, higher intellect and senses, and good health. During this transformation, they pledge binding oaths to their queen.

Duties

Veluthegyr are the eyes, ears, mouth, and hands of their queens.

Responsibilities

Along with courtesans and courtiers, Veluthegyr serve their queens and see to their every need and whim. This means everything from bathing and clothing her to providing security to assassinating enemies and being the cogs and pistons of their queens' machinations.

Benefits

Veluthegyr are given fine food and shelter within the palace. They can (within reason) use the authority of the queen selfishly so long as doing so does not harm her or her reputation. This means that despite their access to prodigious amounts of gold, they rarely have to pay for anything.   Veluthegyr are also the only elves in Doroinir Nimloth that can kill other elves outside of sacrifices to the Abominable.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Veluthegyr usually wear livery with the colors of their queen. The standard array is a simple yet elegant tunic over pants and a silk sash with any specific badges, awards or privileges decorating it.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Veluthegyr that displeases their queen can be ordered to be executed on the spot. Though rare, this order is often carried out by the condemned themselves, a final act of loyalty.   All Veluthegyr that die regardless of cause are mummified and lain in a tomb prepared for their queen.
