A nation-changing vote was held in the senate, by law the Lord Chancellor was deposed, but he declared the vote, and those who voted against him outside of the law. The Republic itself is in jeopardy.
After several months of constant civil strife in the Calemdarian Senate, a vote was called for that would control the fate of the noble Republic for decades to come. The Iron Watchers, a quickly growing faction in the senate hell-bent on returning Calemdar to the militant force it once was had obtained a majority of members in the Senate, and called for a vote of no confidence in the current Lord Chancellor, seeking to place their faction leader, Lord Aelzan, at the helm of the Republic. The vote was 60%/40% but the Lord Chancellor and the High Council refused to allow for the vote, vetoing the Senate's action. This led to untold infighting among senators, some witnesses state there was actual physical altercations breaking out amongst the civil leaders. Across the Republic, mayors, lords, counts, generals, were beginning to swear loyalty and support for those they felt would best lead the Republic onward. Aelzan's forces were beginning the mobilize and the Lord Chancellor was force to recall the expeditionary forces in the Northern Settlements to potentially engage what he called the "forces of rebellion." Citizens and families are split, calling Aelzan nothing more than a rebellious tyrant, and those who say that Lord Chancellor Luidhack holds his throne illegally, and was by a vote deposed. The Republic has entered a constitutional crisis and has practically began to collapse.
