Senke

The Kingdom of Senke is the youngest northern kingdom. It rose up against the kingdom of Dor with the help of Aster during the Asterian conquest of Welond.   The Senkan Government is made up of a council of ruling merchants and nobles. This council is oficially called "The Chamber of the Sanctioned", but it is often simply referred to as the Council of Senke. The council is lead by the stadholder, who is the highest ranking official of Senke. The chamber is equally split between the landed nobility which mainly rule over the countryside, and the leaders of the merchant guild of þornhus. The two sides alternate in leading the chamber of the sanctioned every year, with the stadholder often forcefully breaking gridlock in their party's favour, often to the dismay of their opponents.   Though Senke was a rising star of the Northern Kingdoms shortly after its founding, its rise was stunted by mismanagement, infighting in the council, and corruption. Their resurgent former overlord, the Kingdom of Dor, has exercised immense influence over the nobles of the council, using their conflict with the merchants as an effective tool to divide Senke.   In the year 610 MT, the stadholder was a noble by the name of Aðalsteinn Dux. He dissolved the chamber and formally allied Senke with Dor. Though this move caused immense upheaval in þornhus, it was technically not illegal. Stating a threat of revolution, Aðalsteinn requested the help of Dor. The Dorran king Godehard promptly occupied the capital with Aðalsteinn's consent. Senke is now under control of Dor in all but name. The Asterian Senate, the queen of Harten, and the king of Stalland have all denounced this move as a blatant power grab by Senke, and a violation of the treaties signed by Dor after their fall to Aster.
