Astral aurora

Mythology & Lore

The plane of heaven is a flat earth, covered by glowing clouds, saint light of Heleoz's realm, over the central realm of Elistea, with the cities of Kilisin. Under the surface is the shadow realm of Salinea. The border of the world is a circle of Ice mountains, were all the fight between angels and demons happens, under the watch of Mashanak. At the centre of Elista's real is the dead land tribunal of Tanaos, where can be found the graves of those who wait to return to the plane of the livings to serve necromancers. Argalan, the navigator, flows around the water of Elista, or through the clouds of Heleoz.

Divine Origins

Elistea, Magnus, Argalan, Frausner and Mashanak are some of the gods that came from the olds religions that were abandoned before the fall, from dwarves and elves.

Tenets of Faith

Heleoz, master of light, must be prayed to in his church by all Feridas. Be charitable, respect your neighbour and do not judge anyone on his choices. Do not think you are above others, for there will always be someone above you. The cult of Salinea is secret and silent, never make a word in her name louder than whispers. Do not build closed places for Elistea, always build a shrine in nature, while respecting and avoiding damage to it. Kilisin is in all houses and in city hall, always participate to cities activities and do your work with integrity. Never try to play with the work of Liceeus, Time is not a force to play with. The life and death cycle is sacred, respect every life, do not fear death, do not disturb the dead without their consent. War is not something to be proud of, never do justice yourself, or Mashanak may bring his own upon you. Magic is powerful, magic is dangerous, respect it, do not fear it, master it with humility. Art is beautiful, Argalan don't care, just be yourself, or put a mask, play as you want, but never end in silence after a plain life. Technology is not something to be afraid of, never believe, always seek facts and proof; use logic and reasons instead of instinct, feelings and emotions. Be proud of your creations and discoveries, but never stop on your first success; be proud of your errors and failures. Do not make a cult over science. Always keep doubts but never consider everything as lie de facto. Always be nice to those who believes, make them think of why they believe instead of lecturing.

Ethics

Most of the tenets were more or less abandoned, shrines are now more a way to salute the gods as you would for anyone in the streets. God, themselves followed the path of Frausner, and started acting more like powerful beings with their own lives. They still offer their help and look upon their believers, and non-believers; but do not ask anything from anyone any more in exchange, but to respect them and not insult them. However, the simple rules like "give your love to anyone" or "never look away someone in need" are still considered simple moral logic.

Worship

Most Meridians vow a situational cult to the gods of the astral path; praying for Salinea before sleep at night, Elistea when sowing, and reaping, or big hunts. Argalan for long trips, art festivals, or inauguration of a ship. There are temples in which the ten gods have their hostel; however the major cult is done to Heleoz, chief of the pantheon, with a clergy and several churches around the kingdom. A secret cult is also vowed to Salinea in the night, and a closed cult to Tanaos is done in crypts, hospitals and tribunals. It exists an order of paladin, uniting the ten gods under one banner, and monastic orders for some gods. Each order possess their own fervour, powers given by gods in exchange for prayers and devotions.

Priesthood

On the top of the church rules the great pontiff, elected ear of the saint sun, allowed to see the sacred light without becoming blind. Surrounded by the twenty four rays of each hour. Blessed is the enlightened, that received the wisdom of the rays, and comply in devotion, living in the central temple of his city. Happy are the lighted, who chose to follow the path, and acting for the good, in village by welcoming in his monastery the helpless. Glory to the matriarch, chosen by the by the goddess to hear her whispers, staying close to the great pontiff. Silence is the only voice known to night, to be invited in shadow is to renounce shouting over others, to be one and commune with the night. No clergy, no order can rise around the matriarch for Salinea's caress to touch. The cult of the moon have no house. Worship is to be done at night, under the sight of the moon.

Granted Divine Powers

It exists an order of paladin, uniting the ten gods under one banner, and monastic orders for some gods. Each order possess their own fervour, powers given by gods in exchange for prayers and devotions. Templar of aurora, Heleoz's paladins, are granted the power to channel light in their swords, and reflect it with their shields, granting healing and dead banishing powers. Shadowalkers are the soldiers that act in shadow, choosing a path relative to the moon phase, that will define their skills, following even after death. Their shadow is granted either the power to serves as a cloak to become invisible; to extended and link to the shadow of the other and control others like puppets; or to transform into a real weapon that inflict trauma linked to the target's fears and dislikes.

Political Influence & Intrigue

In the past, Meridia was a divine monarchy, where the temple were setting the rules and was atop of the political circles. Nowadays, the church is really just a reserve of people with great power that await for conflict of grave importance to show their might. Most of the traditional cult is mostly just a floklore; and the gods are now more of consultants (not to say some sort of friendly elevated race) than just absolute divine power.

Sects

The coven of the sisters of silence, despite its name, allow for men. A branch of the church that observe silence, and pray at night, revere the moon. The ten order of paladin, army of the ten gods, are considered separately from the main temple.
the Alchemist of Frausner are not considered religious by themselves and do not revere the gods the same way as others.
