"Concerning the Position"
This letter, largely considered a political ploy, was written by Nostula Turases to Ongar Stone-Grower, archduke of the marsh. While many can assume that Nostula truly did mourn the loss of his nephew, he had never shirked an opportunity for political gain. Further, after the eventual reveal of Efan's survival in his company's conflict with Arniel Kane, Nostula refused to step down from the position. This perspective was only furthered when Caius Warrick, the original head of guard, also returned alive from unlawful incarceration. While Warrick declined the return to his original position, Nostula had never offered to step down.
The letter was lost in the records of Augur's End, though Nostula Turases himself held a copy, which never saw the light of day until the death of Efan Turases. Efan's secondborn son found the letter and publicized it, believing it would cast the family in an honorable light. It wasn't until further political analysis by Professor Everis Dumont that its callous political motivations were unraveled.
Authority Over the Marsh
Nostula Turases, uncle of Efan Turases, served as a guard captain within a sector of Shellbay. For a time, he considered his career would end there, already reaching his late 40s. It was not until his nephew's name showed up in local Augury papers that he took the the marsh, where he would take the position of warden at Jadethorn Prison in order to keep tabs on the exiled family member. After an eventual disaster at Arniel Kane's cabin in the marsh, Efan Turases was presumed dead. Unfortunately for the city of Augur's End, Efan was the first choice for city guard captain in the event that Caius Warrick went missing (which happened at the same time).
When the news of Efan and Warrick's disappearance reached Nostula, he would send this letter to Augur's End, throwing his hat in the ring for guard captain. The Archduke, presuming Efan and Nostula would be similar in nature, accepted the offer. This would begin the decline of the city into a Consilium military state. The renowned position would also begin Nostula's campaign into the marsh in the name of the Augury, which was a smashing success.
