Ohdaufehl and Aufalten (Oh-dow-fell/ Ow-fall-ten)

The Ohdaufehl, by humanity's definition, are divine creatures sent by the gods to assist the world. Each Ohdaufehl has an oath, domain, and a given goal to help the world but they still possess free will. While their nature tends toward their oath and domain, they may fall from divinity in a number of ways. These creatures are organized into two categories:   Ohdaufehl: divine beings which maintain a connection to their god. They are capable of spellcasting and possessing various corporeal and spiritual forms. They still actively follow their goals, even if they do not share what these goals are. They often represent themselves as dragons or other powerful creatures.   Aufalten: mortal creatures that fell from grace with their god. These creatures lose spellcasting abilities and are forced to exist in a biological form, but their nature is often unchanged from their initial form. All dragons are either Aufalten or descendants of one. Notable Aufalten would be Ghattadon and Epithet, white and blue dragons respectively.   An Ohdaufehl may either be corrupted by a devil or fall from grace of their own accord. Even the Kaban elders Korahaman and Kadelkonatl are theorized to be Aufalten, but there is little backing behind the idea.   Further, all Ohdaufehl and Aufalten have a "Verse." Whether the creatures themselves made their verses or humans did is unknown.

Aufalten Budding

The aufalten often display a strange phenomena known as "budding." Often found in root vegetables or sponges, aufalten are known to reproduce by growing a new organism from its own body, often appearing disturbing in manner. This is known to be the method by which dragon covens first emerged and the dragonborn were formed. The only recorded instances of this budding are on Ghattadon, the Gentle and Epithet, the Fleet. What triggers this process is unknown, but distinct artistic depictions paint the process as a painful, slow, resource intensive method of producing loyal subjects.
