Collapse of the Islands Five

Political event

1898
17/2

The fall of the long-standing Islands Five which oversaw the Snow Rock Isles. The organization reached as far into history as when the islands were the only lands to cradle humanity. After disastrous famine, poor leadership, and refusal to adapt in the face of the Augury, the citizens of the isles decided it was time to bend or break.

With the Augury staking its claim as the center of humanity's prosperity, ideals in the people of the independent Snow Rock Isles began to shift. The staunch theocracy refused to adapt their ideas in these new ages, which began to spark conflict when their distant Shellbay cousins arrived in order to escape persecution. Following a famine in the isles that spread from end to end due to the presence of new invasive species of whale, arguments began to develop about why the gods would forsake them so.   It was ultimately decided that their Shellbay cousins were the cause of the recent tragedies, as their banner flew the livyatan whale species present in the Orphi Gap. The Islands Five, however, staunchly refused to take action, claiming that infighting was not the message of Ornjack and Bailum, nor would the gods punish the reuniting of their distant cousins.   The citizens of the isles, overtaken with distrust and hysteria, took brutal action against the church. A temporary seat of power was developed in the Gates of Vast by a dissenting section of the Saltkrigere navy. This group would call themselves the "Haseti Contingent," going back to their roots of early civilization ideals. The Haseti contingent would support the destruction of the Islands Five in exchange for a government that both supported the supremacy of the isles and the gods that they served, while making clear their rejection of the Augury's ideals. Further, they would take new stances on diplomacy towards the empire that had an apathetic demeanor while ensuring they could harness the military power to be a necessary tool of Shellbay, and as such keeping them in a reliant chokehold.   When the Islands Five collapsed, they were replaced with the "Bowhead Haseti," named for the founder's family.
