The lands to the east of the Issati Peaks, home of the Verani Republic. Long time enemies of the Empire of the Shattered Isles, the Verani are known as slavers and practitioners of dark magicks. Historically, the Verani were divided into a rigid caste system, based on the individuals level of natural arcane abilities. Within this caste system, the citizens were further organised into eight magical orders based on their aptitude with each of the different spheres of magic.
The Verani Republic was governed by the Council of the Verani, a body comprised of representatives of each of the magical orders. However, unbeknownst to the citizens of the Republic, each representative of the council was actually a mindless husk controlled and puppeted by a cabal of Mindflayers who lived beneath the city.
The cabal were the remnants of an Illithid slaver expedition who had become stranded after the War of the Gods when the Veil was erected. They created the nation of Verani as livestock to sustain them as they sought a way to return home. During this time, they experimented on the citizens of the Republic, fostering in them advanced magical capabilities which they could then claim for their own.
Settlements:
Verani The capital of the Verani Republic. Verani is built in concentric circles around a central spire. Those with greater magical aptitude, and hence a higher station in society, live closer to the centre; with the Grandmasters themselves living atop the central tower. Towers dedicated to each of the magical orders are located around the outer wards.
Manaalden
Ravenstrom
Opalknoll
Locations:
Kanaalden A massive undergound highway running through the Issati Peaks from Verani to the Kanaalden Mort on the border of Quan
Kanaalden Mort An immense fortification carved into the very mountains of the Issati Peaks on the edge of Quan. It is here that the Verani captured and experimented the denizens of the jungle to create many of their slave races
Flora:
Fauna:
Quaggoth Monstrosities created by the Verani as trackers and hunters, the Quaggoth resemble a humanoid cross between a bear and an ape. Learning from their mistakes with the Orcs, the Verani ensured their newest creations were brutal and sadistic by nature, requiring little incentive to perform their master's will
Tabaxi The Tabaxi are humanoid cat creatures, created by the Verani to serve as spies and assassins
Illithid Illithid, or Mindflayers, are cruel humanoid aberrations from another dimensions. Their society is heavily based on the enslavement of other races, both as menial workers, a source of food, and hosts for their young. Illithid consider themselves to be superior to all other forms of life in the multiverse, and they take perverse delight in the suffering of others.
Aquiliath A gargantuan spider like monstrosity, which uses powerful illusion magics to lure victims into it's lair
