Bakanese

The Bakanese people are known for their raiding parties and the mystery lying around their island. The people carry throwing spears but refuse to kill people on their raids.

Stereotypes

People don't know much about the Bakanese. Since some seem to be mutated and strange, they are often seen as monsters, or people who have done dark deals. Few people will interact with a Bakanese in their life so they are used as children's stories.

Naming

Bakaneer members will name themselves and their villages after famous battles in the past or after weapons as they believe this gives them protection and power by their ancestors. These names are degraded with time like many other Lanmet names.
Examples: Bluss, Musket, Pache, Warn and Bulle

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

There are two main languages, the ones the vault dwellers brought - a language based on the arabic script and a script similar to the Lacandon language, which has a Aztec base. This means common words come from Lacandon language while new concepts come from Arabic script.

Culture and cultural heritage

Athletic and martial tradition means racing, weight-lifting, gymnastics, javelin tossing, martial arts and boxing are popular. Lutes and pipes provide music while weaving and woodcarving provide both a hobby and storytelling method. Commonly tales will focus on the hazards of nature and telling of the old times.

Shared customary codes and values

Most of the laws and customs are passed down historically, and end up a blend of the Quistador and Zecs traditions. Some of their large traditions is that they believe that the rest of the people in Lanmet are spirits which means that killing them would just lead to being cursed. Originally their sanctity of life was for religious reasons, now it has another purpose as well - so other cultures will not retaliate against them.

Common Etiquette rules

The young and old have similar amounts of respect, each of them have places on the councils and a prominent place in society. Other races are highly respected as spirits. It is considered alright to trick or defeat them, as long as their "life" is preserved.

Common Dress code

For Bakaneer fashion is a private matter. A person's fashion sense is the window to their thoughts and to be dressed differently in public is similar to be naked. Fashion is only followed inside a private home to close friends and family. Houses have front rooms with head height windows where visitors can talk to inhabitants without violating their privacy. There are five sets of varied practical clothes which everyone on Bakaneer will wear a set of. The primary colours of dye and browns and blacks.

Art & Architecture

Bamboo is used prominently in the architecture with larger wood as base panelling, the houses are usually small with slanted roofs.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Stews are a common source of food, often with herbs and small animals such as sheep, boars or lizards for meat.

Superstitions

The belief that the rest of the world is spirits is the main belief for the Bakanese. Killing them results in bad luck and tricking them gives you good luck.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Death is not a sad event for the Bakanese, it is seen as becoming part of the great spirit world around them. Celebrations and remembering will happen in response to it.
