S26. Can I Barrow That Dragonslayer? Report
General Summary
The heroes left the Logger's Camp in a hurry with the possible threat of an owlbear being drawn by the smell of the bug carcasses. Tibor said he needed to be left behind because his livelihood was at stake. So reluctantly Keth left and caught up with the others.
Luckily (or unfortunately, according to Wolfaen) no owlbears were encountered. The party travelled west along the river, then south along the Wood to find a campsite about 5 miles short of where the Dragon Barrow is located. On their way there, once again Xanth arrives with another traveler in tow. He introduces Amarille to the group and after some awkward moments decides, strictly on his own, to head off and patrol the Woods.
The party camps and gets through the night without any threats approaching.
The next morning they break camp and head into the area of the Dragon Barrow. Wolfaen enthusiastically begins to scout the mound starting right at the top and at the exact spot where he finds a secret entrance to the Barrow in the stone. Amazing talent, that boy!
The groups carefully scooches down a narrow spiral staircase about 50' down. In the narrow tunnels below they begin to encounter witchlights -- probably the ones Xanth warned about. Shockingly, Keth falls in a pit trap, and is then attacked by the light...shockingly.
The rest of the group also engage, or are engaged by, 3 other lights, and in time they manage to kill 3 of them. They learn that lightning does not affect them, and non-magical weapons are highly ineffective. But Keth and his magical sword make quick work of them if he can land an actual blow...those things move fast!
One of the lights flies off down some halls and Eethyl gives chase. He narrowly makes it across another pit trap as it caves in right behind him. Now he is alone on one side of a pit trap with not one, but two lights.
And he also yells out..."Hey! There's dead people in here!"
