Mooncolor

General Summary

Day 27 since arriving in Avernus     Avernus, First Layer of the Nine Hells     After Mad Maggie performed the ritual needed to restore Lulu's memory, Lulu was able to remember everything.   With Lulu's memory restored, the adventurers wanted to complete their quest of returning the city of Elturel back to its rightful place on Toril. But first, they would have to find the location of Zariel's hidden sword.   Lulu reminded everyone that Zariel's most loyal Hellrider, Yael, took the sword and plunged it into a rock. Lulu then called on every ounce of goodness in her heart to raise a shield around it, a fortress against evil.   "I know where the fortress is located!" Lulu said excitedly. "Once we reach the fortress we'll find Zariel and the sword!"   Mad Maggie offered a vehicle to the party, who left Fort Knucklebones after getting enough supplies for the trek across the barren wastes of Avernus.     It took some time to trek across the endless wastes of Avernus.   On the way to where Lulu was guiding them, the group came upon a strange sight.   They spotted a large metal structure jutting out of a side of a small mound of reddish dirt. Radiant light cascaded from the rusted metal monument shaped like the upraised mandibles of a giant beetle.   After driving closer to investigate the strange sight, the group discovered the light was coming from a unicorn, who was trapped inside a IO-foot-diameter sphere of magical force that prevented any matter from passing into it and blocked any spells cast into or out of it.   They learned the unicorn's name was Mooncolor. She said that while she remained trapped in the sphere, the unicorn couldn't use any of its magical abilities.   Moments later, a huge demon appeared over the hill. It came charging down the hill towards the magical sphere like a moth drawn to flame.   The adventurers fought off the demon who was in the end destroyed by a beam of intense light that originated from the sphere. But not before it had damaged the vehicle the group came in and flipped it over.   Soon after, a dao named Ralzala appeared before the group.   Ralzala claimed to be the unicorn's guardian but admitted she couldn't free the enchanted creature. Apparently Ralzala swore loyalty to Zariel to gain revenge against a rival dao who tried to ruin her. The dao regretted the arrangement and would like to break her pact with the archdevil.   Ralzala said she was forced to guard the unicorn and prevent anyone from freeing it, although she would be more than willing to if the group could find a way.   Ralzala added that she does know an oracle named Red Ruth, who could surely divine a solution to her problem. Being bound to the area, Ralzala was unable to seek out this oracle herself, but the adventurers could do so in her stead. She told them to speak with Red Ruth in the corrupted forest nearby and follow her instructions to break the pact. The forest was known as The Bone Brambles.   But just as the group was about to leave, Khaboom offered a possible solution to freeing the unicorn.   While the party was busy talking to the dao, the gnome artificer had been studying the rusted metal structure. He concluded that if the structure was somehow destroyed, it may possible nullify the magical sphere trapping the unicorn.   The group considered the idea and agreed to give it a try.
