Brimsdall of Clan Turnoroth
Brimsdall was hatched in 1474 DR into the Turnuroth clan, from the continent of Laerakond in the Trackless Sea. His dragonborn clan, descendants of blue dragons, dedicated their lives to the craft of pottery. However, Brimsdall was the first red dragon hatched into the clan in thousands of years; The first red dragon descendant seen by any living member of the clan. This frightened and confused many and resulted in Brimsdall being rejected and living as an outcast amongst his own clan. The clan soon discovered that he was imbued with magical energy by the dragon goddess of greed Tiamat. This gave Brimsdall his red and gold scales as well as unimaginable magical powers. This revelation further widened the divide between Brimsdall and the clan. Brimsdall struggled to understand and control his powers as an adolescent as there was no support in the clan for beings with magical powers.
After years of being ignored and mistreated by the clan, Brimsdall escaped from the captivity of the clan in hopes of learning more about how to control and understand his power. Brimsdall traveled far away, eventually finding a collective of powerful half-elf wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks who had built a temple to the goddess Tiamat. The temple was built into the side of a mountain range, thousands of feet above sea level. After hearing Brimsdall's story, the group was amazed and brought him in to teach everything there was to know about various magics and the scripture of Tiamat. They studied ancient texts from all over the world which allowed Brimsdall to gain better control over his powers, learn more about his origins, and what his purpose was.
Little to Brimsdall's knowledge, his clan had been hunting him for years, looking to eliminate the threat they had let leave the village. Upon returning from a solo journey back to the temple, Brimsdall found the lifeless bodies of his half-elf brothers and a note from the clan demanding his return. Brimsdall once again found himself on the run, having been forced to leave his seclusion vowing one day to confront his former clan.
Amongst the dead bodies, Brimsdall found his best friend Ifaris, a warlock, and a note in his pocket scribbled to Brimsdall. The letter read, "Find the Great Old One. He will give you my power." Brimsdall remembers Ifaris showing him the forest where his patron resided and headed to speak to him. Eventually, he arrived in front of a gigantic tree, with eyes and mouth which spoke into the mind of Brimsdall. They conversed about recent events and eventually, The Great Old one presented Brimsdall with a deal. Since the Great Old One cannot move, he would like to see through Brimsdall's eyes as to actually experience traveling across Toril, even different worlds and planes. In exchange for this, he grants Brimsdall additional magical powers.
The Great Old One also shared a vision he had with Brimsdall where he would gather together a group of adventurers in the continent of Faerûn. With the help of an adventuring company, he would travel to Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, where Tiamat's lair could be found. The Great Old One then transported Brimsdall to Toril.
Brimsdall arrived along a coastal road. Not far down the road, he spotted an old man driving an equally old wagon being pulled by a large beast of burden. When he called out to the driver, the old man was surprised to see him claiming no one stood in the road moments before. Brimsdall simply smiled and asked if the man found his kind strange. The old man said he had only seen a few dragonborns in the past several years, but he admittedly found gnomes to be even stranger. Brimsdall asked where he was specifically, including the world they were in, and if the kindly old man could offer him a ride on his wagon.
The old found the first question strange but said his ox, Old Bess, probably wouldn't mind pulling the extra weight. Brimsdall offered to pay the man who gently declined and said he wouldn't mind the company, and protection, on the High Road. The old man said they were in the area of Neverwinter on the continent of Faerûn, on the world of Toril. The city of Neverwinter lay some 20 miles to the north, while the Sea of Swords and the forest of Neverwinter lay about 15 miles to the west and to the east. The old man who said his name was Nate said he was heading south to the mining town of Leilon.
Brimsdall was happy to learn he was on the right continent. He wanted to avoid any cities so he got on the wagon and set out into this strange new world looking for a way to fulfill the vision shown to him by the Great Old One.
