Cambria

Cambria is the western region of Britain.
Several old kingdoms are placed here, inheritors of legacies dating back to before the Romans.
These kingdoms and many smaller lands follow an older, less sophisticated way of life. Civiliced attitudes of feudalism are foreign, whereas instead barbaric customs hold sway. The people here are known to be untrusting and dangerous, illequipped and backwards. Most do not farm, but instead herd cattle and sheep in the pastures in the hills. Though backward by the standards of Logres, the men of Cambria are well respected as warriors, and many great heroes have come from their midst.

History

It is said that Brutus had three sons among whom he divided his lands after landing in Britain. His elder son, Locrinus, received the land between the rivers Humber and Severn, which he called Loegria, later Logres. His second son, Albanactus, got the lands north of the Humber, which took from him the name of Albany. The younger son, Camber, was bequeathed everything beyond the Severn, which was called after him "Cambria".   Cambria never stood united for long, and after shifting alliances, it became a part of Britain, owing allegiance to the High King, but mostly disunited.   When Vortigern was High King, he was one of the first Cambrians to be so in decades, and many gladly followed him at first. However, with the coming of the Saxons, the Cambrians were split, and many followed King Vortimer of the Silures and King Katigern of the Ordovices in the revolt against the tyrant.   The Pendragons never truly gained the love of Cambria, especially not Uther.   Before the Anarchy, two strong kings contended for power in Cambria; Estregales and Gomeret.
In the south, King Canan ruled over the land of Estregales.
This people are descendants of ancient Irish raiders who settled here. He received fealty from the lords of Escavalon, Gloucester, and Cardigan, but when he died, Canan's subject all revolted, with Escavalon proving to be the stronger Kingdom, leaving Estregales old territory as vassals of King Nanteleod.   The lands of Gomeret and Isles (Anglesey and the Holy Isle), including Cheshire, were ruled by the young King Pellinore, an ambitious and difficult king. The people of Gomeret are the decendants of the Votadini, a proud line of Caledonians who came south to fight on Vortigern's behalf.
Pellinore is the great-grandson of the famed Cunneda, his own father and his father's father having all died young, leaving the throne to a man who would rather be in the field. A fair and just man, Pellinore passion for the hunt sometimes overcomes his obligations to his kingdom.
In recent years, Pellinore has rarely been spotted in his Kingdom, leaving it open for foes, especially their neighbours from the mountains.   The interior of Cambria is all rugged mountains and forests. Many tribesfolk live there, outside the rule of any king or civilized way, with Kingdoms rising and falling within a single lifetime. Many call these interior mountains Surgales, and the people here are the decendants of the proud tribe of the Ordovices, the decendants of Vortigern, and opposed to their brother-tribe, the Silures, who became the soft Kingdom of Escavalon.   Recently, three brothers named Cadlew rose as Kings of the Tribes, hoping to oust King Pellinore from the Throne of Gomeret, but have been challenged by Nanteleod, leading to a summer of warfare in the Surgales mountains.
