Queen of Taliesin

The ruler of Taliesin, the queen is either a direct descendant of the Namer Maeveen or the wife of one. Tasked with the governance of the kingdom, the queen has the assistance of two lieutenants, the Captain of the Queen's Guard, and the Council to assist her, but the rule is hers alone. There have been both good and bad queens throughout history, but none have managed to destroy their country yet.

Qualifications

Must complete warrior training before being allowed to inherit. Must be at least sixteen years of age. A certain level of power is preferred (in the case of multiple children, the most powerful child or their spouse inherits the throne).

Requirements

At least sixteen years of age. Taliesinian. A direct descendant of the Namer Maeveen, the Namer Maeveen, or the wife of a direct descendant.

Appointment

A coronation is held. Either the former queen or one of her lieutenants will pass the crown along to the next one, followed by a grand feast and celebration. Must be crowned at either Midsummer or Midwinter.

Duties

Take care of the country. Make decisions based on what is best for the people. Declare war, sign alliances, peace treaties, and trade deals. Visit the different areas of the kingdom, listen to what the people have to say. Ensure the best is being done for the kingdom and its people.

Responsibilities

Bi-weekly Council meetings. Signing of bills and documents. Writing and editing proposed laws. Speeches to the people once a month. Meeting with different high-ranking nobles to discuss various issues. Final inspection of taxes.

Benefits

Officially answer to no one, though there are obligations to be fulfilled. A considerable amount of authority. Get to host many parties and feasts. Treated with respect by everyone.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Several different variations of a crown. Certain outfits for formal situations. A warrior uniform.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Council can force a vote of no confidence if a queen is particularly bad and there is an heir in place. If this happens, a vote among the people is called. If the people vote to depose the queen, then she is removed from power. If this happens to a Namer, at least four other Namers must agree to remove the Namer from power.

History

Many powerful and influential queens have existed throughout history. Several queens have taken over for their corrupt predecessor, wrangled a difficult Council, or resisted the hatred of the people. Others have been quite bad, and as such are either not well known or universally hated.

Cultural Significance

Many people look to the queen as a guide for how to conduct themselves. When visitors arrive, they typically meet with the queen first, to discuss with her. She is the symbol of authority in the kingdom.
