  Cesan is the official language of Cesland and is descended from the common language of the Cesnockwe tribes prior to the The Great Invasion. Elements of Cansonism have influenced the evolution of the language.

Phonology

Cesan is made up of individual syllables represented by a single symbol. These syllables always begin with a consonant sound but can end in either a vowel or consonant sound.

When Cesan is written out, the beginning consonant is written as a large symbol. Each of the symbols for the beginning consonants are blank in the upper right quadrant where the vowel is written. The ending consonant, if the syllable has one, is indicated by a modification to the vowel.

Nouns

Nouns can be easily recognized by their suffixes. (x=consonant)
    • Material nouns: -xo
    • Immaterial nouns: -xa
A plural noun is recognized by the repetition of the suffix.
    • Matieral nouns: -xoxo
    • Immaterial nouns: -xaxa
The consonant of the suffix is determined by the enmantic association of the noun.
  • Aura: -vo/-va
      • Personality traits, dreams, emotions, people (roles not related to enmanity), values
  • Composition: -wo/-wa
      • Cooking, food, medicine, bodies of water, body parts
  • Flora: -ro/-ra
      • Plants, herbs, gardening/farming tools and locations, clothing, baskets, traditionally wooden objects, boats
  • Flux: -ko/-ka
      • Flowing bodies of water, writing, writing instruments, ink, paint, 2d art forms, time, blood
  • Geonature: -lo/-la
      • Physical geography, traditionally rock/metal/glass objects, 3d art forms
  • Light: -to/-ta
      • Lamps, fire, moons, stars, sun, heat, vision, weather phenomenon
  • Melody: -po/-pa
      • Instruments, musical notation, rhythm, birds, insects
  • Persuasion: -bo/-ba
      • Parts of speech, performances, titles/royals/nobility, texts
Often the suffix is what determines the meaning of the noun.

Terms specific to the practice of an enmanity will end in with the associated suffix. The enmanities themselves are referenced by the immaterial suffix by itself.

Verbs

Verbs

Verbs can be easily recognized by their suffixes, either -doh or -dah. Verbs are built from nouns and the suffix is determined by the suffix of the noun that is built upon.
    • domlonvodo: to care for
    • domlonvada: to be loyal
    • domlonpodo: to cricket (play soothing evening music)
    • domlonpada: to harmonize
Cesan verbs are tenseless and therefore do not change. Tenses are indicated by helper words.
Descriptive Words

Descriptive Words

Descriptive words are recognized by their prefixes, xo-/xa-. There is no differentiation between words used as adjectives or adverbs. Similar to nouns, the consonant of the prefix indicates the enmantic relation of the descriptive word. Often the same base is used for descriptive word related to a noun.
    • vodomlon: caring
    • vadomlon: loyal
    • dodomlon: cricket-like (having characteristics that remind one of evening sounds)
    • dadomlon: harmonic

Prepositions are single syllable words that come directly before the noun or verb they are modifying. Tenses

Helper words are used to indicate tenses in Cesan when it is not clear from context the timing of the action. The helper word comes directly before the verb and is written in superscript when written out.
    • Distant past (a long time ago, usually greater than a year): ku
    • Recent past (within the last year): lu
    • Very recent past (something that happened today): du
    • Present (is happening right now): mu
    • Continued Present (is happening right now and will continue): pu
    • Future: vu
    • Conditional future (could happen): su
