Hessen Community Center

Hessen Community Center is a public hall located in Hessen. Its upkeep is the responsibility of the community as a whole, and though it is managed by a small community board, everyone in Hessen contributes their time to maintenance of the building as well as the garden associated with it, and wealthy families in the area regularly contribute monetary donations to cover administrative and other costs.   When it was originally built, the community center served as the school house as well as the meeting hall for the village and surrounding areas, but as the village began to see growth in the century after the fall of the queendom, a larger building was built beside it to house the Hessen Community School in 862. The buildings are connected by a colonnade that passes through the community garden between them. Though not directly associated with the school anymore, the community center is a common location for group tutoring sessions in the enmanities for both children and adults.   Following the building of the school, an annex was added to the building to serve as a place to preserve Hessen's history in 879. The Hessen Historical Society regularly hosts presentations and other events in the meeting room of the community center to share this history.   A second annex was created in 1037, along with significant upgrades to the original building, to add a wine tavern called The Vinery. This tavern was meant to serve locally crafted wine (what Hessen is known for) as well as food using locally sourced ingredients. The largest of the local wineries donated bottles so that the community center could maximize proceeds from sales, and many continue this tradition to this day. It remains one of the most popular places to gather in Hessen for both locals and tourists.
