Mental Trauma
Jason was teased a lot during school. Because many students couldn't pronounce his last name and because he hit his growth spurt early, shooting up to six feet in 7th grade, he earned the nickname "Gaggle." He was occasionally picked on by the popular kids and football team, but mostly managed to escape into the shadows and spent most of his time alone.
His mother, Jessica Gagnon died of AIDS-complicated pneumonia in 1983. Legally, because Peggy McLean was not considered his parent, Jason was forced to pursue emancipated status in order to keep custody of his sister, Lily. The weight of this took a major toll on his self-concept and he withdrew from Lily and Peggy emotionally. He remains estranged from them, reluctant to return to LaGrange and his family.
