Personal history
Zan's parents met in China when her father, a Baptist minister, was on a missionary trip to Chongqing. They married shortly after the end of his trip and he stayed in China for several years. Zan was born in 1994 and her father wanted her to get an American education (in spite of her mother's protests). He moved the family, which also included Zan's younger brother, Jingyi, to upstate New York. Zan and Jingyi went to school in the Poughkeepsie public schools. Jingyi is a sophomore at UCLA. Zan got her bachelors in communications from NYU, came home to Poughkeepsie, sweet-talked her way into a loan with the bank and bought a bar, called the Summer's End which serves classic bar food and alcohol, features musicians a few times a month, and karaoke every night.The bar has been exceptionally successful due in a large part to Zan's talent for promotion and word of mouth advertising.
