Leprosy
This frightful disease is associated with slow rotting of the body and open sores.
Transmission & Vectors
Spread is thought to occur through a cough or contact with fluid from the nose of a person infected by leprosy.
Symptoms
Infection can lead to damage of the nerves, respiratory tract, skin, and eyes.
Over time, the victim can become Blinded.
Secondary infections (additional bacterial or viral infections) can result in tissue loss, causing fingers and toes to become shortened and deformed, as cartilage is absorbed into the body.
Compounding this, nerve damage may result in a lack of ability to feel pain, which can lead to these secondary infections going unnoticed.
