Turn
On your turn, you can move a distance up to your Speed and take one Action. You decide whether to move first or take your action first.
Many class features, training regimens, and usable objects grant additional options for your actions.
If you have one available, you can also use one bonus action on your turn, in addition to your normal action.
Many actions and bonus actions, such as attacks, require use of one or both hands. You cannot take an action or bonus action that requires a hand if your hands are already occupied.
Other Activity on Your Turn
Your turn can include a variety of flourishes that require neither your action, bonus action, nor your move:- Communicate through brief utterances and gestures, as you take your turn.
- Cease concentration on a spell or ability
- Release a grapple attack.
- Drop an object out of your hand.
- Roll an ability check that requires only sensory awareness (you can see, hear, or smell the target and superficial analysis - such as an Intelligence (Arcana) check to identify a spell being cast.
- Other instantaneous or especially brief activities, at the discretion of the GM.
- The GM might require you to use an action for any of these activities when it needs special care or when it presents an unusual obstacle. For instance, the GM could reasonably expect you to use an action to drop an object if it is stuck to your hand in some way.
