The Temple in the Woods Report

General Summary

Suddenly, as the laughter fades, Rahvin is shot right in the face! The little elf girl laughs in delight at his cry of shock, and Zela shrieks, rising into the air with the intent of murdering the poor child. A bola streaks out of the woods, nearly hitting Zela as well, but Zela is undeterred. As more and more children streak out of the woods, Zela glowers at them all, and begins to chant in the terrifying voice of Primordial speech. It works, and the children shriek in terror, running away into the woods.   Alynn, looking around to make sure that there are no more kids about to run out of the forest and attack them, suggests that this could be a Lord of the Flies situation, which makes Zela feel bad for scaring them.   She flutters up, attempting to call them back to her, but to no avail. She sends Ommi up, and the little pseudodragon looks about, eventually spotting a cathedral in the distance. The party decides to go check it out and make sure that the children are safe.   As they approach, they meet a priestess who introduces herself as Rowe - the dean of this church. When the party reports the children's rambunctious and potentially dangerous activities, she apologizes profusely and rushes off to call the children back to the cathedral.    Alynn, staring at the various stained glass windows in this cathedral, notices that one depicts their goddess: Anwyn, goddess of the hearth. The other gods are also depicted in the stained glass - which is to be expected, they are soon informed. Light's Touch Cathedral was founded by The Great Church, and as such worships the Lords of Heaven as equals.   Meanwhile, Kash and Zela have snuck off to the adjacent small library to look over the texts hidden there - especially those that detail Zheenkeef and Naryne. Kash hopes to find something pertaining to his disturbing dreams by consulting texts about the goddess of dreams, but does not have much luck. In much the same way, Zela hopes that mother of dragons, Naryne, would have some insight into Golgara, though also does not have any success.   Upon the children returning, Rowe forces the children to apologize to Rahvin, who accepts it graciously, as he always does.   The party eventually leaves, camping for the night, and while on watch, Kash tells Alynn about his dreams. Honored by his honesty, Alynn swaps stories, delving into their own backstory about being raised in an anti-modernization cult and the discrimination they felt in Northland for those reasons. The two discuss what they're going to find in Aberella when they arrive, and Kash admits that he thinks that the party is in over their heads. Alynn doesn't reply, staring into the flames silently.
