Session 138 - "An End to the Spawn of Horror" & "The Worthy Soul"

General Summary

Carrion Hill
Rupman’s Vats
10.30a
Kyrrn lays waste to several zombies as others beginning climbing out of their pits. Drago teleports to Keeper Myre and presses the attack. The dragon falls to the floor and reveals itself to be undead as well. Keeper Hyve appears from behind, surprised to see the Fellowship, but it is short lived as suddenly the wall explodes beside and he is ripped in twain by some invisible force. After blasting another zombie, Kyrrn begins to feel somewhat drained. Lorrimor drops a wall of violet fire on the dragon which has significant effect on it and the zombies that haplessly walk through it. Kelath lands palpable blows as well on the undead draconian. Myre reaches out to Drago to no result, shrieking “It’s all Crove’s fault!” With Crissaegrim, Drago shreds Myre’s side as his own wounds begin to heal. Kyrrn locks the dragon into place as it roils away in the purple flames.
All are sickened by the stench of what seems like hundreds of open, rotting charnel pits as something still unseen moves further into the building. The Spawn of Yog-Sothoth attacks Kyrrn and Kelath. Lorrimor dimension doors away with Kelath to the other side of the building. Myre continues to miss his attacks, but Drago lands his. Kyrrn draws the bag of Binding as Toll is also tangled into a slimy, but still unseen tentacle. As she feels her own entanglement tighten, Kyrrn calls out to the Spawn in the alien tongue … and it responds. Using it’s momentary surprise, Kyrrn surreptitiously uses her telekinesis to move it to Lorrimor. The Spawn speaks in a gutterly, unearthly voice and Kyrrn’s response seems to be an affirmation as she suddenly twists in its grasp and fires a destructive bolt at Keeper Myre. The Spawn releases Kyrrn, but Toll is not so fortunate. Knowing what crushing, blood-drinking fate awaits him, he pulls out a dagger and plunges it into his throat.
Lorrimor fires bolts of magic at Myre and drives him to the ground after which Drago transforms into a swarm of bats and materialized on the roof, and is soon joined by Kelath and Lorrimor but they are unable to see him due to a sudden, unnatural fog. Kyrrn portals through the wall, speaking reassuringly to the Spawn. She quickly makes her way to the fallen Myre and seems to offer his unconscious form to the aberration… and then suddenly flees through the back wall. Giving an unholy roar of rage and frustration, the Spawn bursts through the wall of the factory in unrelenting pursuit. Momentarily forgotten, the Professor, Kelath and Drago begin preparations of the binding spell, agreeing to imprison the Spawn in the very skull Crove was to have used and allowing its release only if all four present speak the phrase, “Ahornah ymg’ bug back hup hh’ ymg’ mgepnog, sothoh”. Kyrrn leads the Spawn’s heedless path of destruction back to the factory.   Time seems to stop and a void appears in the icicles of rain as Lorrimor completes the ritual and Kyrrn orders the Spawn to get within the skull. The skull reshapes itself into an amorphous rock as the fiend enters it and suddenly the Fellowship’s previous fatigue returns like the sudden blow of a guillotine. The phantasmal sound of wings begins circling and fluttering all around them. Kelath’s hand passes through Lorrimor who nods in resignation and gives a half smile and replies, “It seems for once I’ve been deemed worthy, unfortunately it seems also that my time is short. Listen, before I go, I had hoped to have more time to speak to you,” he shrugs, "but what I do know is one thing.
“You must bear witness when the Betrayer reveals his true intentions. For it is only then that the Prophet’s words will ring out, and a terrible choice revealed. Ch’nglui ng nnnogor ot shuggnglui will fulfill its purpose and the Shuggnglui will be made open. The decision made will set the Fate of the living and the dead.” He points to Kyrrn. “She must be present for this choice, or all is lost. Be brave, my Fellowship, for I have been deemed worthy and young Neferu shall return. My time short and, already, I can hear the wings of the whippoorwills. I know you have questions, but alas, my time has run out. Remember, the Carrion Crown is the path.”

Lorrimor disappears as well as any remaining strength they had with him. Drago crumples to the ground after regressing to his previous grievously wounded state. After a time, the Fellowship continues. Kelath wearily retrieves the star moit, Kyrrn takes Toll’s Crow ensignia and the pair makes their way back to Crown Manor with their unconscious friend and foe…
